We were excited to honor U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren as our Civic Leader Change Maker at the Greater Boston Civics Day last week. In her video address, she talks about the importance of perseverance in working to make change in one's community: "Generation Citizen’s Civics Day is a terrific event. This program gives students a chance to learn about government and public service in a hands-on way while making a real difference in the community....Government is just another name for all the things 'we the people' decide to do together."

Generation Citizen is featured in this great Globe piece about the power and value of action-based civics education: "If we want our students to become engaged citizens, we must teach them to do more than answer multiple-choice questions. At its best, civic education is personal, timely, and empowering.... This kind of civics education — palpably relevant and intimately local — changes lives."

These days, American schools are focused on two big “C’s,” college and career readiness. Many believe we’re neglecting a third “C:” citizenship. That quality is best taught through civics.
