Boston Mayor's Commission for Persons with Disabilities The Mayor’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities works to increase opportunities for people with disabilities in the City of Boston.

The Mayor's Commission for Persons with Disabilities works with City Departments, neighborhood residents, community groups, disability advocates, agencies, non-profit organizations, private businesses and developers to ensure that accessibility and inclusion remain a top priority in the City of Boston. In Boston, our commissioner for people with disabilities is also the Americans with Disabilities

Act Title II coordinator for the city, and works to ensure that all city programs and events comply with the ADA. We continue to work on issues affecting the disability community around physical, informational, programmatic, and policy access.

Did you know? The City of Boston has an ordinance that all public facing TV's have closed captions turned on if sound is on?

If you encounter a public-facing television without captions turned on, please consider taking the 5 steps below:

1.) Ask to speak to the manager and inform them of the Captions Ordinance requirements
2.) Direct them to this doc of FAQs and this webpage with instructions on how to turn on captions
3.) Report violations on Boston 311 by phone, online, or mobile app
4.) Report violations of the Closed Captioning ordinance using this complaint form
5.) Email [email protected] to ask about getting some of our wallet-sized cards containing information on the Captions Ordinance
