Knitters for Occupy Boston is an informal group of knitters who support Occupy Boston, Occupy Wall Street and the other Occupy movements and encampments around the U.S. The goal of Knitters for Occupy Boston is to get knitters, crocheters and other crafters to make warm clothing for the courageous folks camping out at Dewey Square. We also see the act of knitting, crocheting and other handmade cra
fts as its own form of creative political action, a protest against a corporate consumer culture that aims to entice and distract us with cheap, disposable goods of questionable necessity and quality. The act of knitting is an act of love - the love of creating something unique and personal, the love of the courage of the people at Occupy encampments, the love of community. How to get involved:
1. KNIT! Just start knitting -- hats, scarves, gloves, socks, and mittens are what will be needed most as the weather gets colder. You don't need to be a master knitter to participate -- beginners are MOST welcome. As this page develops, we will post links to "how-to's" and patterns. It's a good idea to knit items in fairly "average" sizes. You don't know who will end up wearing your item, and what size person they will be -- so don't make anything too big or too small.
2. Once you've knitted your item(s), you can deliver them personally to the Logistics tent down at Dewey Square. The Logistics tent is near the Gandhi statute.
3. Post patterns and advice.
4. Share this page with friends.
5. Visit Occupy Boston, follow it on Facebook and Twitter, and keep your friends informed.
