The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) is the regional planning agency for Metropolitan Boston. Our charge: use planning to improve the region's livability -- its prosperity, safety, health, and distinctive character. To that end, we offer to the municipalities in our region a wide range of planning services and group purchasing opportunities; and we act as a regional think tank, providing data, analysis, advocacy and a range of convening and collaborative opportunities.

Good afternoon all:

Thank you to all of you who were able to join us last Wednesday for a presentation on the traffic safety program, Vision Zero. Copies of the Vision Zero presentation and meeting agenda can be downloaded at the TRIC website.

Our next meeting will take place on April 18th from 9:00-10:30am at the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce, 520 Providence Highway, Suite 4, Norwood. As a follow up to the Vision Zero presentation, I have arranged for a speaker to come out from out Data Services team to talk about the Local Access tool MAPC developed, which can help communities better plan for sidewalk expansion. I have also reached out to MassDOT and hope they will be able to send someone to talk about Complete Streets initiatives and how the Local Access tool can be used to support applications to the program.

Good Evening All:

Just a friendly reminder that TRIC’s next meeting will be on March 21st and will likely feature a presentation from MAPC's Public Health Department on the Vision Zero policy, an approach to transportation safety planning that sets a target of eliminating all serious injuries and deaths due to road traffic crashes.

Also, a big thank you to Jenn Erickson from MAPC for coming out to present on Arts and Cultural planning! In addition to discussing what Arts and Cultural planning is and how it can benefit our communities, the group learned about MAPCs new Arts and Planning Toolkit, which presents a new framework for understanding the ways in which arts and culture can infuse innovation and creativity into our communities and showcases a range of arts and culture planning and policy tools and approaches. The toolkit can be found online at artsandplanning.org and a copy of the presentation can be downloaded from the TRIC website at http://www.mapc.org/three-rivers.
