🇨🇻⚽ DORCHESTER DAY PARADE 2026 ⚽🇨🇻

COME MARCH WITH THE CABO VERDEAN COMMUNITY!

THE CABO VERDE NATIONAL TEAM WILL UNFORTUNATELY NOT BE ABLE TO JOIN US AT THIS YEAR'S DORCHESTER DAY PARADE. While we are disappointed they cannot be with us, our celebration of Cabo Verde and this historic moment continues! Please share this message and help us spread the word!

As we had stated in a previous communication, the Cape Verdean Association of Boston had been coordinating with the Cabo Verdean Soccer Federation (FCF) to create opportunities to bring the community and players together. And while this has been our greatest intention all along, we have recently come across a lot of barriers that will limit our ability to accomplish this effort in the way that we had imagined.

We were recently notified by Paulo Santos, the Cabo Verdean Soccer Federation (FCF) Vice President, that due to team restrictions and coaching staff concerns, the federation cancelled several appearances, including their appearance with us at the Dorchester Day Parade this weekend.

ON SUNDAY, JUNE 7TH, WE INVITE THE ENTIRE CABO VERDEAN COMMUNITY TO COME TOGETHER AND MARCH WITH US as we celebrate Cabo Verde's first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance. This is a moment of immense pride for our nation, our people, and our community around the world.

Let's fill the streets with Cabo Verdean flags, music, energy, and unity as we proudly represent our culture and show our support for our team from Boston.

📅 Sunday, June 7, 2026
🕐 Meet up at 11:30 AM | Parade starts at 1:00 PM
📍 1000 Washington St, Dorchester Center, MA 02124 – ZONE 1-E

Bring your family, friends, flags, and Cabo Verdean pride!

Together, let's celebrate this historic achievement and show the strength and spirit of our community.

ONE PEOPLE. ONE FLAG. ONE NATION. 🇨🇻

The Cape Verdean Association of Boston is deeply saddened by the passing of José Vieira Duarte, known to generations as Djosinha, one of the most beloved and influential figures in Cabo Verdean music and culture.

With a remarkable career spanning nearly 75 years, Djosinha brought joy, pride, and the sounds of Cabo Verde to audiences around the world. From his early days performing as a child to becoming a celebrated member of Voz de Cabo Verde and later a successful solo artist, his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

We were honored to welcome Djosinha to our Cabo Verdean Independence Festival last year. His energy, passion, and unforgettable performance reminded us all why he was such a cherished icon in our community.

As Cabo Verdeans around the world mourn this tremendous loss, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, fans, the people of São Vicente, and the entire Cabo Verdean community.

Thank you, Djosinha, for sharing your extraordinary talent and for helping preserve and elevate our culture through your music.

May he rest in peace.

Celebrating Children’s Day!

On June 1st, the Catholic Charities Teen Center at Saint Peter's hosted a wonderful Children’s Day celebration in partnership with the Cape Verdean Association of Boston.

Children and families enjoyed an afternoon full of fun, featuring a delicious cookout, music, dancing, face painting, games, and many other exciting activities. The event brought our community together to celebrate the joy, energy, and potential of our young people.

We are grateful to everyone who attended, volunteered, and helped make this day so special. Thank you to the Teen Center staff, community partners, and families for creating a memorable celebration for our children.

Together, we continue to build a stronger and more connected community for the next generation.

Statement from the Cape Verdean Association of Boston

First, the Cape Verdean Association of Boston wants to acknowledge this momentus and historic time… Cabo Verde’s first ever participation in the World Cup, which is being hosted in the United States (US), including Massachusetts.

As one of many planned events in the US, we were called upon as an organization to support the planning of a welcome event for the Cabo Verde Men’s National Soccer Team and to perform outreach to the community; and as a part of this process, it was important that we worked in partnership with the Cabo Verdean Soccer Federation (FCF).

We participated in coordination meetings with FCF, in hopes of developing and delivering an accommodating welcome event for the team and overall FCF delegation from Cabo Verde. The goal was to provide a warm welcome upon their arrival --- to give them cultural and fan-fueled energy as they prepared for competition in the weeks ahead.
Unfortunately, on day of the event, we were surprised by logistical changes to this plan, which were unexpected and beyond our control; and things did not go completely as planned.

However, we appreciate and thank everyone in the community for responding to our call. While it did not go as planned, the sense of community, cultural pride, and vibrant Cabo Verdeano energy was still present- alive and well at the airport yesterday among community residents. In addition, the players still received a warm welcome from Cabo Verdean airport staff and personnel. We are very thankful and proud of everyone who came from Boston, Brockton, Rhode Island, and other communities.

We look for other opportunities to bring the players and community together. We also encourage you to support our national team at the upcoming friendly soccer match between Cabo Verde and Bermuda in Hartford, CT taking place at 4:00 PM EDT on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. This is a time for us to stay connected and together as a community in supporting them during the World Cup 2026 tournament.

Sincerely,

Cape Verdean Association of Boston
