Back in February and March so many alums, current Girl Scouts and friends gathered to make blankets for Project Sweet Peas - Southern New England hospitals. COVID struck and deliveries were haulted.

This weekend we delivered all the blankets we had been holding to the NICU at Women and Infants. They will be quarantined for two weeks and then shared with families. We were told that the nurses and families love these!

Enjoy the photo showing Sarah accepting everything and a few samples of the blankets hidden in the black bags! Can’t wait to make more for all the babies and families and gather with our GS friends.

First established as Decoration Day after the Civil War, the holiday was set aside for families and friends to visit and decorate the graves of troops lost in the conflict.

As time went on, the observance instead became known as "Memorial Day," until 1971, when Congress declared it an official holiday set to fall annually on the last Monday in May.

Memorial Day is a somber holiday dedicated to honor military fallen, with a special focus on those killed during military service or through enemy contact.

Gold Award Extension: Girl Scouts is offering a three-month extension for Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors earning Girl Scouts’ Highest Award. This extended deadline (December 31, 2020) provides flexibility, recognizing that many schools, youth activities and community gatherings have been suspended. gsema.org/goldaward

For the next eight weeks, middle and high school teachers and students can gain access to 22 free, self-paced online courses through the San Diego Zoo covering a variety of taxonomic groups and individual animal species.

Offered by the San Diego Zoo Global Academy, the interactive courses are designed to be completed by students in as little as one to two hours. They include video, images and quizzes to teach students about mammals, birds, reptiles, monotremes and more.
