The Council of Autism Service Providers supports our members by cultivating, sharing, and advocating for provider best practices in autism services. The Council of Autism Service Providers is a non-profit association of for-profit and not-for-profit agencies serving individuals with autism spectrum disorders. Our member agencies care for more than 60,000 children and adults with autism across the

United States and have collective revenues over 1 billion dollars. CASP represents the autism provider community to the nation at large including government, payers, and the general public. We serve as a force for change, providing information and education and promoting standards that enhance quality.

Good news in Alabama! In response to our feedback, Alabama Medicaid is pausing Specialty 175.

In a message to CASP, they wrote: "Thank you so much for reaching out to the Alabama Medicaid Agency. I have received a copy of your letter, and I truly appreciate your feedback, time, and willingness to address the concerns and inquiries shared."

The agency added: "Your willingness to engage, collaborate, and work toward solutions is greatly appreciated. I believe continued partnership and open communication will be valuable as we move forward in strengthening policies and processes."

We look forward to working with Alabama Medicaid to ensure continued access to medically necessary ABA services while also addressing fraud, waste, and abuse.

In 2009, 10 autism services leaders recognized a need. There was no conference or association focused on running an autism service organization effectively. Moreover, the industry lacked national representation in important policy discussions.

In response, these leaders formed the Council on Autism Services (CAS)—a workgroup that held an annual conference for providers across the country. Every year, CAS heard the same thing from participants: that was great, but we need you to do more.

In 2016, CAS formalized into a trade association: the Council of Autism Service Providers (CASP). In the 10 years since we got our “P,” CASP has grown from 12 members to 450+.

Action alert! Alabama's new Medicaid requirement (effective July 1) could delay access to ABA therapy if your child's pediatrician has not completed a new enrollment designation.

Contact your pediatrician to ask if they've added ABA Specialty 175 to their Alabama Medicaid enrollment.

Then ask your state legislators to support a temporary grace period, so children don't lose access to medically necessary ABA services because of an administrative deadline.

Make your voice heard on Medicaid policy changes in Vermont! https://www.casproviders.org/advocacy-and-public-policy

Recent changes to Vermont Medicaid ABA policies have reduced therapy hours, increased cancellations, grown waitlists, created provider staffing challenges, led to fewer providers accepting Medicaid, and created concerns about service reductions and program closures.

Providers have reported reducing services, pausing new Medicaid intakes, discharging children from treatment, and even closing locations as they struggle to continue serving Medicaid beneficiaries.

State leaders need to hear directly from Vermont families about how these policy changes are affecting children.
