Last week, the 4th graders from Sacred Heart School Weymouth came up to the State House for a field trip.

The students took a tour of the building and learned more about Massachusetts history, and I was able to speak to them in the House Chamber with Representative Murphy where we told them a little about what we do as elected officials who represent them, their families, friends, and neighbors.

I am always honored to speak with the students who come to the State House to visit, thank you to their teachers and chaperones for making the day possible. It was great to see you all again, and I hope you will make your way back to Beacon Hill soon!

I was proud to file Amendment 1070 to the FY27 budget, which in part has included $20,000 to the Town of Scituate to promote regional tourism through the upkeep of the the South Shore Irish Heritage Trail.

The trail runs from Weymouth to Plymouth and highlights each community’s unique contribution to our local history. The idea for the trail came organically through the Scituate and West Cork Sister City Committee to help celebrate and educate the populace about Irish-American contributions to life in Scituate and the South Shore.

We have such a rich Irish history full of traditions here within our communities that people from all over the Commonwealth and beyond visit to experience. I'm looking forward to the summer months enjoying the trail.

Last year, I visited Camp Wing in Duxbury to learn more about the incredible work they are doing through their youth development programs. Crossroads is dedicated to empowering young people to unlock their potential and make a positive impact in the world. Their camps provide immersive outdoor experiences for students in grades 2–12. At Camp Wing, Crossroads offers eight weeks of residential overnight summer programming where children can experience the strength of the Crossroads community.

I was glad to secure $50,000 for youth development programming at Camp Wing in the FY27 budget through Amendment 1070 to support their continued work and expand opportunities for young people here on the South Shore.

After meeting with their staff, volunteers, and campers, it was clear to me that Crossroads remains deeply committed to its mission and has had a lasting impact on the lives of children and families. I am hoping all the campers are looking forward to a great summer!

Last week during the FY27 Senate Budget Debate, I was able to secure two very important nonprofits on the South Shore funding through Amendments 1047 and 1070, aimed toward supporting South Shore Nonprofits and Community Development.

The Jett Foundation based out of Norwell, empowers people and families impacted by Duchenne muscular dystrophy through their supportive direct programming and educational opportunities for every stage of a Duchenne journey. I am thrilled to have secured them $250,000 for empowering individuals and families impacted by Duchenne muscular dystrophy through transformative programming.

Based out of Cohasset, Empower, Inc. 's mission is to support, connect and empower children and young adults up through age 24 who have experienced the death of a parent. Our support comes in the form of two programs: Mentorship and Events. All programs are offered at no charge to the family. I was able to secure Empower $100,000 to aid in supporting services and programming for children facing parent loss.

I was honored to speak on the Senate floor regarding the Jett Foundation and Empower during our debate and I'm looking forward to our continued work together.

JPH Organization has long been a cornerstone of the Marshfield community, dedicated to personal growth, wellness, and supporting those around us. Their mission centers on fostering a welcoming and inclusive space focused on healing, transformation, and community connection.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with JPH at Ferry Hill and attend many of their wellness events and summer camp programs, where I’ve witnessed firsthand the meaningful impact they continue to make across our community.

I was pleased to secure $25,000 for JPH in the FY27 budget through Amendment 1070 to help support their continued programming and outreach efforts. I’m grateful to continue partnering with this incredible organization and remain committed to ensuring they have the resources needed to keep making a lasting difference in the lives of children, adults, and families throughout our community.

I had a great time with the 3rd grade students from the Murphy School in Weymouth (my elementary school alma mater) during their State House visit.

After the group had a tour of the building, they were able to visit the Senate and the House Chamber, where they learned more about the history of the State House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives.

I am always honored to speak with the students who come to the State House to visit, thank you to their teachers and chaperones Weymouth Public Schools for making the day possible. This was a very bright group of young people, and they all had great questions for me. It was great to meet with you all, and I hope you will make your way back up to Beacon Hill soon!

The Second Annual Military Appreciation Day at the State House recognized the contributions of veterans, active-duty service members and military families from across Massachusetts. This year I was honored to nominate Keith Jermyn, USN(Ret.) for this recognition.

Construction Electrician Senior Chief Petty Officer Jermyn is a lifelong resident of Hingham, and his naval career started in June 1985, just one day after graduating from Hingham High School. On June, 18, 2022, he officially retired from naval service after serving 28 years. He has also had an impressive civilian career as a licensed electrician with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union #103 of Greater Boston as Shop Steward.

He served as the VSO for Hingham Veterans Services for many years, retiring in 2024, and I have had the pleasure of working with him closely over my time in office when it came to Veteran affairs and events. He was a strong advocate and integral in the passing of the law designating September 22nd as Veterans Su***de Awareness and Remembrance Day.

I also would like to recognize the additional Veterans nominated from our community, Sean McPherson of Weymouth, Joshua Summers of Scituate, and Thomas Daley of Cohasset.

Thank you all for your service to our country, and to the South Shore.

It was an honor to welcome Diane Tock to the State House to recognize her for her thirty plus years of dedicated service to the South Shore through emergency communications. The majority of that time was spent with the town of Hull in 2002 and with the SSRECC since 2012. Diane was joined by her son Luke Gosselin, Deputy Director Gordon, and Executive Director Smith from South Shore Regional Emergency Communications Center, who went on a guided tour of the building.

I was happy to then introduce Diane during Senate Session and reflect on her impressive career and commitment to public safety. Thank you for your trip up to Beacon Hill and for all the hard work that you have done for our community. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement.

Last week, members of the Weymouth, MA Veterans Services visited the State House to fulfill their annual tradition of laying a wreath at the Ralph Talbot Plaque outside of the House Chambers. As part of their visit, I was proud to be able to introduce them during the Senate’s budget deliberations where they were each recognized for their contributions to our military and our community on the South Shore.

The Town of Weymouth has a remarkable and esteemed military heritage. Weymouth is home to five Congressional Medal of Honor recipients and is the only municipality in the United States that holds this distinction.

The Veterans Council works very hard to ensure that the proper recognition is given to those citizens of Weymouth who have fought for our freedom and we are thankful for their work.

Thank you to Mayor Michael Molisse's office and Representative Murphy for their involvement in this special day.

On Memorial Day we honor those men and women who gave their lives for our country. By doing so we keep their memory alive, and how they fought for our freedoms.

Please take the time today to remember, honor, and celebrate the memory of those who gave us everything.
