For a long time, college wasn't part of the conversation for students with intellectual disability. Right now, only 2 percent go on to college. That's changing. Across the country, colleges and universities are building programs where students with intellectual disability take classes, live in the dorms, hold jobs, and graduate with the same sense of belonging as their peers.

From the classroom to the residence hall, Kendall is making her mark. As a second-year student in the NDSU Transition and Access Program, Kendall is excelling academically and socially, taking her courses for credit, and working as a Resident Assistant. She’s gaining leadership and work experience while building community on campus — all while working toward her goal of a career in social work.

🏛️ State legislative sessions may be over, but the work to advance inclusive postsecondary education policy continues - and YOU can be a part of it! 💪

In our latest blog, Caroline Nawas Jurisich reflects on this year’s state legislation outcomes and shares an important reminder: the work does not begin when sessions start. It starts now. 🤝 Now is the time to build relationships with lawmakers, educate them about IPSE, connect with other advocates, and lay the groundwork for future policy change!

It’s that time of year! ☀️📚 Across the country, students with and without disabilities are back on campus, and we are so excited to see another year of of learning, connection, growth, and new experiences getting underway. Here are just a handful of photos we’ve seen to from tons of programs over the past two weeks! 📸

From orientations and move-in days to first days of classes and everything in between, programs are welcoming students back and kicking off a new academic year.

Join Think College National Coordinating Center presenters Clare Papay and Danie Roberts-Dahm for the RAISE Center webinar “Beyond High School: Inclusive Postsecondary Education Options and How Students Can Prepare” on September 21 at 2 p.m. ET.

We’ll explore postsecondary options, what students can do to prepare, and how professionals can support transition-age youth as they explore college and build the skills they need for a successful college experience.

As an honored guest at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota, Clare Papay witnessed the far-reaching impact of Think College's work.

“Several parents stopped me to say their young adult went to college and to share how important Think College was in helping them find a college,” Clare shared, “Getting to see our impact firsthand was so uplifting.”

Think College & the Special Olympics North America Unified Champion Schools are teaming up to advance programming on college and university campuses through education, sports, and leadership for students with and without disability!
