Ambassador Byrne Nason will reflect on the enduring Irish-American relationship and Ireland’s contribution, not only to the foundation of the U.S., but also to its political, economic and social development over the past 250 years.

The event also includes a reading by poet and Professor Micheal O’Siadhail of ‘Irish America’, his specially-commissioned poem celebrating 250 years of shared U.S.-Ireland heritage, and a special Irish musical performance.

Minister Patrick O'Donovan will lead the 2026 International Famine Commemoration in Cohasset, Massachusetts on Sunday 10 May.

The International Famine Commemoration is held to honour the victims of An Gorta Mór, and to acknowledge its deep impact across the world. Since its establishment in 2008, the International Famine Commemoration has been hosted in cities around the world with strong Irish connections, including New York, Sydney, Liverpool and Toronto.
