The Oregon Salmon Commission and the Oregon Albacore Commission are accepting proposals for Administrative Services. The contractor will provide the necessary administrative support by providing an office facility and equipment, managing the Commissions' assessment programs, payable and receivable bookkeeping, financial reporting, budget preparation, meeting planning, writing minutes, administrative rule writing, maintaining communications and good working relationships with the Commissions' volunteer boards. The full Request for Proposal is available on www.oregonsalmon.org and www.oregonalbacore.org and is due by February 4, 2022 by 5:00pm PST.

Offered by Oregon Sea Grant and the OSU Extension Service, the tours teach people about the state's fisheries, its fleet and how to buy seafood.

It was great talking with the students about jobs in the fishing industry. Potential future fishermen/women? We hope so.

At the Great American Seafood Cook-off in New Orleans yesterday, Oregon Chef Holen prepared an ocean caught Chinook salmon dish. It looked great, but didn't place. The winner was Florida using Gulf Cobia, second, Texas with Gulf Shrimp, and third, Louisiana with Grouper and Gulf Shrimp.

Astoria's Chef Chris Holen of Baked Alaska will represent Oregon at the 2014 Great American Seafood Cook-off. On August 2nd, Chef Holen with assistance from Chef de Cuisine Phil Spencer will be in New Orleans to battle it out against chefs from 15 other states for the title of King of American Seafood. Seafood Oregon which has sponsored the Oregon chefs over the years will be there to cheer Oregon on. Stay tuned for the results.
