As summer rolls on, we continue to re-live some of our favorite Boston Public Schools stories from the 2025-26 school year.

Heidy Barreiro graduated in June 2025 from the BPS Bilingual Educators and Accelerated Community to Teacher (BE/ACTT) Program. She now teaches at Boston Day and Evening Academy and is enrolled in the BPS Teaching Fellowship (BPSTF).

Watch and listen closely, as “Miss B” describes how she uses lessons from these educator-development programs to lead an engaging and inclusive classroom in her first year in her new career as a licensed teacher!

What an inspiring day at Orchard Gardens K-8 School!

We were honored to welcome Mayor Michelle Wu 吳弭 and Representative John Moran, as they celebrated the incredible impact of You Got It Girl (YGIG) and GROW – Girls Reflecting Our World during our 5th Quarter Summer.

Together, these two outstanding programs are empowering girls through leadership, mentorship, wellness, teamwork, and confidence-building – helping our students discover their voices and reach their full potential.

Thank you to the dedicated leaders, mentors, and staff who make this work possible every day, and to our amazing students for bringing joy to us all. The future is bright!

More than 120 Boston Public Schools student-athletes came together Tuesday at the Joan Kroc Center to inspire the next generation through a free youth lacrosse clinic for Boston students ages 7–14.

Led by BPS students in grades 6–12 alongside high school and college players, participants built their skills, gained confidence, and each received a lacrosse stick to continue playing beyond the clinic.

A heartfelt thank you to Harlem Lacrosse - Boston for your incredible partnership and unwavering commitment to our students—not just during this summer clinic, but throughout the entire school year. Your year-round focus on academics, athletics, and mentorship helps BPS students thrive on and off the field.

Together, we're creating opportunities, building community, and helping every student reach their full potential.

As summer rolls on,we continue to re-live some of our favorite Boston Public Schools stories from the 2025-26 school year.

Our students graduated at the highest rate in the district’s history in 24-25, with the four-year cohort graduation rate increasing to 81.3%, a 1.6 percentage point increase from the previous year, marking the strongest graduation outcome the district has recorded.

At the same time, the district’s annual dropout rate fell to 3.6%, a 0.9 percentage point decrease from 2024, representing the lowest rate on record aside from the pandemic-impacted year of 2021.

Check out the photos from the celebration Mayor Michelle Wu 吳弭 and BPS Superintendent Mary Skipper held at Dearborn STEM Academy!

This summer, rising Boston Public Schools Grade 4 students are exploring the wonders of Franklin Park Zoo

As a proud 5th Quarter Summer partner, Zoo New England uses the facility as a classroom where our students learn the importance of conservation and animal care.Students enjoy up-close-and-personal encounters with a range of animals, learn about their natural habitats and how humans can work together to protect wildlife.

BPS is so grateful to Zoo New England for this partnership in fostering a better appreciation of animals and their habitats for our students.

Boston Public Schools is excited to celebrate the second annual Exam School Initiative (ESI) Summer Program Student Showcase!

Last week, Boston Latin School hosted rising BPS Grades 4, 5, 6 and 8 students, parents and friends, as students demonstrated what they’ve learned this summer throughout the four-week program. Their displays included lessons in math, English language arts, music, and visual arts.

The Exam School Initiative (ESI) is an equity initiative led by the BPS Office of Teaching & Learning to increase diversity in our three exam schools by providing access to students from traditionally underrepresented communities. This summer, 200-plus students participated in ESI programming.
