TOMORROW is the 2023 Local Environmental Awareness Fair! Will we see you there?

Drop by and visit with:

Earth Spirit Educational Services, a non-profit organization that offers variety of environmental programs for schools, community groups, corporations and the general public. Sierra Club Niagara Group. The Niagara Group represents Sierrans in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans, and Wyoming counties in Western New York. The Niagara Group is one of eleven local groups in the New York State Atlantic Chapter. The Sierra Club is one of the oldest, largest, and most influential grassroots environmental organizations in the United States, founded by John Muir in 1892.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The NYDEC guides and regulates the conservation, improvement, and protection of New York's natural resources; manages Forest Preserve lands in the Adirondack and Catskill parks, state forest lands, and wildlife management areas; regulates sport fishing, hunting and trapping; and enforces the state's environmental laws and regulations.

For the animal lovers out there, we'll be joined by Wild Spirit Education who will be tabling with a raptor AND KCY Reptiles is returning with an assortment of reptiles and amphibians!

Per New York State Agriculture and Markets Law Section 303-b, the Erie County Legislature designated September 1 through September 30 as the annual thirty-day period during which landowners may submit requests to include predominantly viable agricultural land into an existing certified agricultural district.

The 2023 Open Enrollment period is now open. Requests to enroll land can be submitted at erie.gov/agenrollment.

5 days until the 2023 Local Environmental Awareness Fair and we still have many vendors and organizations to highlight!

We are excited to have Western New York Trout Unlimited join us this Saturday! WNY Trout Unlimited is hosting their September Steam Explorers event in conjunction with L.E.A.F. Did you know that in addition to the Town of Boston, NY Park bordering 18 Mile Creek, the park also has TWO stocked ponds, one of which features a wheelchair accessible dock.

Trout Unlimited will be tabling at the fair AND they will be running a casting / instructional clinic. Come fine tune your skills and bring your fly fishing questions.

Entries are due TOMORROW, Tuesday September 5th.

Judging by the public will take place at the 2023 Local Environmental Awareness Fair this Saturday, September 9th, 2023. The top three winners will receive gift cards to Boston Hill Nursery and will be showcased on the Town of Boston, NY CAC's website and page. In the event of a tie, the winners will be chosen by the CAC, so be sure to stop by the event and cast your vote!

The countdown continues! 11 days until our 2023 Local Environmental Awareness Fair. Will we see you there?

Come visit with organizations like Penn Dixie Fossil Park & Nature Reserve! Penn Dixie is a 54-acre park located at the site of a former cement quarry in Hamburg, NY. Visitors can collect and keep Devonian Period fossils including trilobites, brachiopods, crinoids, and more! Penn Dixie's mission is to promote the hands-on study of natural sciences and this geological treasure attracts thousands of visitors from across the world every year!

14 days until the 2023 Local Environmental Awareness Fair!

Do you know your soil's pH?

pH is the measure of how acidic your soil is and it has direct impacts on plant nutrient availability, heavy metal availability, microbial health, and ultimately plant health and productivity!

Town of Boston, NY residents can bring a representative soil sample to the 2023 Local Environmental Awareness Fair on Saturday, September 9th from 10am-2pm to have your pH tested by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County for FREE.

The Friends of the Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve is a volunteer-led, nonprofit organization that supports the environmental education programs offered by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at Reinstein Woods, a 292-acre forested complex that also includes wetlands and ponds, located in Cheektowaga!

The Boston Free Library is a true gem. In addition to books, movies, and music, you can also check out a number of other items from our library including: metal detector, outdoor projector and screen, karaoke machine, video camera, green screen with frame, trail camera, snowshoes and so much more!

The folks at the Boston Free Library also organize a variety of events for the whole family throughout the year. Join us on Saturday, September 9th from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at the Town of Boston, NY Lion's Shelter to learn move about this fantastic resource within our community.

Citizen Coalition for Wildlife and Environment is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization headquartered in Grand Island. They aspire to be the voice of wildlife and the stewards of our environment. We are 22 days away from the 2023 Local Environmental Awareness Fair and we have some incredible organizations joining us this year!

The New York State Bluebird Society (NYSBS.org) is dedicated to conserving the Eastern Bluebird and other native cavity-nesting birds for future generations to enjoy. Their volunteers monitor various Bluebird trails throughout the state and educate and assist others on how to be good stewards. Visit with our local Bluebird Ambassador, Angela T. Baron, to learn how you can help our state bird!

The Town of Boston Conservation Advisory Council is excited to bring back the Beauty of Boston Photo Contest!

The "Beauty of Boston" photo contest is open to all Boston residents, regardless of mailing address. Photos should be of the outside, a scenic landscape, or other nature-related theme from around the Town of Boston. So find the perfect scene that showcases the splendor of our Town, snap it, and send it in. Please, no people in the photos! One submission per person.

Judging by the public will take place at the 2023 Local Environmental Awareness Fair on September 9th, 2023. The top three winners will receive gift cards to Boston Hill Nursery and will be showcased on the Town of Boston, NY CAC's website and page. 2022 L.E.A.F. Local Environmental Awareness Fair Spotlights!

We have a few organizations joining us tomorrow that will feature animals!

KCY Reptiles will discuss reptile and amphibian education and conservation.

Buckhill Rabbitry will be around to educate folks on keeping show or pet rabbits.

Spencer's Animal Encounters will be offering a petting zoo from **11-12** pm that will allow kids to interact with various animals!

50 years ago, on August 4th, 1971, the Town of Boston voted to create the Conservation Advisory Council
A slightly different view of our fair valley taken from the town park. Apologies for some jerkiness and maybe some sea sickness on the way down, but I'm still learning and trying some things with it...

Interesting that when I had it up there a hawk came by and was getting a little too interested in the drone...

I'm also surprised that the fall colors aren't further along by this time...
