Each month, the City Council issues proclamations providing local recognition for significant dates, celebrations, milestones, and service to our community. These proclamations help us recognize the diverse cultures, histories, and experiences that make Bothell a great place to call home.

Speaking of which, here's what the Council recognized in June:

➖ 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Month: This proclamation celebrates and honors the contributions, identities, and resilience of the Two‑Spirit, Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Q***r, Intersex, Asexual, and allied community. It reinforces that all identities are valued, heard, and respected in Bothell.

➖ Juneteenth: The Council proclaimed June 19, 2026, as Juneteenth in Bothell to honor the day when enslaved Black Americans in Texas were finally freed in 1865. The proclamation recognizes the historical injustices of slavery, the importance of racial healing and dialogue, and Bothell’s commitment to building a more equitable community.

➖ Orca Action Month: In an effort to raise awareness about the endangered Southern Resident orcas and the threats they face, this proclamation supports regional education and conservation efforts, highlighting Bothell’s commitment to environmental stewardship and restoring salmon‑supporting waterways like the Sammamish River and local streams.

➖ The Council also issued a special proclamation honoring Catherine Jansen, a longtime City employee, for her 30 years of exceptional service. As she retires this month, the City expresses heartfelt appreciation for her decades of commitment and service. Thank you, Catherine!

As always, the City appreciates the many community members who join the Council throughout the year to request and accept these proclamations.

Have something you’d like to see recognized? You can request a proclamation (with at least 30 days’ notice) by contacting the City Clerk: https://www.bothellwa.gov/681/City-Clerk.

City Hall and most City services will be closed tomorrow, June 19, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and is recognized on June 19 each year. In 2021, it became the eleventh American federal holiday and the first to obtain legal observance as a federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was designated in 1983. The big game isn't the only thing heating up today... Whether you love it or loathe it, it’s another hot one out there! Keep these essentials top of mind:

➖ Stay hydrated and don’t overdue time outdoors - rest if needed
➖ If you take a dip or go for a paddle to cool off, practice water safety - water temps are still cold
➖ Never leave animals or children in a car, even for a moment
➖ Check on neighbors who may be especially sensitive to the heat, and keep an eye on pets (with lots of water accessible)

You can learn more about high heat safety on our website: https://www.bothellwa.gov/2381/Extreme-Heat

We’ve got electrifying news for Bothell: The City was recently awarded grant funding from the Washington State Department of Commerce's Washington Electric Vehicle Charging Program (WAEVCP) to support electric vehicle (EV) charging access in our community.

These funds help will allow us to work with local agencies and engineers to complete site designs for future EV charging stations, as we plan for charging station expansion across the city. Check out the article below to learn more. ⬇

Supporting more environmentally friendly transportation options is just one of many priorities identified in the City’s Climate Action Plan. There’s more to come, so stay tuned for additional updates as the work moves forward!

The WAEVCP is supported with funding from the state’s Climate Commitment Act.
