Here’s a little peek inside of our tree cooler. All of our trees/shrubs have arrived, and if you have placed a hand-plant order with us, we will notify you when your trees are ready to be picked up 😊🌲🌳

We picked up our evergreens at Towner State Nursery today, and it was actually snowing along with what felt like 130 mph wind gusts! We’re not quite sure what month it really is anymore, and it will be at least a week before we’re out machine planting. Hopefully, the soil and air temperatures will be on an upward trend soon! πŸ˜¬πŸŒ²β„οΈπŸ’¨

It was a beautiful, but slightly chilly morning to learn how to take water samples!πŸ’§

Turtle Mountain SCD has collaborated with the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality (NDDEQ) to facilitate the β€˜Oak Creek Watershed Assessment Project’, aimed at evaluating water quality within the Oak Creek Watershed and determining local support for future implementation initiatives. The project's objective is to assess water quality and gauge support. As part of this project, Turtle Mountain SCD employees, Linda and Kari, will collect water samples at five designated sites along Oak Creek in accordance with their sampling and analysis plan. Water sampling activities are scheduled from May through September, so you just might see Linda or myself out collecting samples 😊 Remember, it is essential to recognize the importance of clean and safe water for all. πŸŒŽπŸ’§

If you have any questions or concerns, please call us at the office at 228-3611 ext. 3. Thank you!

Want your trees to thrive? Mulch helps retain moisture in the soil and protect tree trunks from lawn mower damage, weeds, and competition from grass.

When mulching, be sure to follow the Rule of 3:
πŸ“3 feet in diameter
πŸ“3 inches deep
πŸ“3 inches away from the trunk

Never make a mulch volcano! πŸš«πŸŒ‹ Piling mulch too deep and against the trunk can lead to rot, insects, and diseases. You should always be able to see the root flare where the trunk starts to widen before reaching the first woody root.

🌎🌳🌲Happy Earth Day! 🌲🌳🌎
Even though you should make Earth Day every day, please refrain from planting trees today, especially in northern North Dakota! While our air temps have felt pretty warm these past couple of days, our extended forecast looks pretty chilly yet with freezing overnight lows. Those of us that live here in the North Pole πŸ™ƒalso have to wait for our soil temps to warm up a bit more too, which usually means about mid-May for our tree planting season to start. So skip the planting trees for today and maybe just go and pick up garbage to celebrate Earth Day!
