As Electrical Safety Month comes to a close, it’s a great time to remember that safety-focused maintenance today supports dependable energy tomorrow. Proactive attention to electrical systems helps keep power infrastructure safe, efficient, and reliable year‑round.

At Hoover Dam, electricians use a bucket truck to reach and clean the transformer’s high‑voltage insulators. Even routine dust and environmental buildup can interfere with equipment performance and increase the risk of electrical issues if left unaddressed.

Regular insulator cleaning improves performance, supports reliable power flow, and helps protect the high‑voltage infrastructure that serves millions across the region.

Something exciting is underway at Hoover Dam!

Together with our partners at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the Bureau of Reclamation is helping kick off the “Road to America 250” in a big way. A massive American flag, stretching nearly the size of a football field, now hangs across the face of Hoover Dam, marking the start of a special celebration.

Each evening, Hoover Dam will glow in red, white and blue, giving visitors an early look at a patriotic display that will continue to grow as we approach July 4.

Join us in this historic celebration between now and July 4 to see the display in person and get a preview of what is still to come.

The powerful Memorial Day weekend tradition “Fly Your Flags Over Hoover Dam” will take place Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Hoover Dam. 🇺🇸

The Vietnam Vets – Legacy Vets Motorcycle Club launched this annual ride back in 1994, and 32 years later it continues to grow. The 2.5‑mile procession begins on the Arizona side of Hoover Dam and will cross the dam as they make their way to the Boulder City Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Whether you’re riding or watching from the roadside, this is an event that moves everyone who experiences it.

Thank you to all who served and all who honor loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Bureau of Reclamation is investing approximately $52 million from the Hoover Dam Post-Retirement Benefit Fund to support critical infrastructure upgrades and strengthen hydropower reliability at Hoover Dam.

As lower Lake Mead elevations continue to affect hydropower generation, this funding will help advance key improvements, including up to three new widehead turbines designed to operate at much lower lake elevations. Once complete, the upgrades could restore up to 160 megawatts of hydropower capacity.

These investments will help ensure Hoover Dam continues providing reliable, renewable power to more than 1.3 million people across Nevada, Arizona and California.
