Cats are now being trapped in both Altadena and Palisades. The need for centrally managed intake and recovery centers are crucial for families to be reunited with their cats; the existing facilities are not sufficient to accommodate the influx of rescues needed out of the burn zones, and the evidence shows that reunification takes many months after a disaster like this. The sooner the intake and recovery management is centralized, the more likely the kitties will get to return to their families.

FieldHaven Feline Center is the single most qualified entity to be responsible for this process.

Please contact LA local officials to persuade them to take action now, to both arrange for a centralized intake and recovery center and to extend the hold period for animals to be reunited with their families!

Even with the limited access being granted to our trained professionals… late this afternoon our volunteer, Sam, was able to trap this sweet kitty, Boots.

Sam was able to immediately locate and contact his family with the help of neighbors and has now reunited Boots with his mom, Jasmin Gomez!

Welcome home Boots! ❤️🐾🐾❤️

1/21/25 LA Fires Update:

Palisades has 50+ active feeding sites.

Eaton has 32+ active feeding sites.

All feeding sites are being replenished by local volunteers.

Currently these sites are inadequate and everyone needs to keep pressure on city and county governments as well as the police to allow proper access to maintain them.

ASSERT is working in conjunction with local volunteers to upgrade these sites to adequate feeding stations beginning today as well as adding more.

We continue to work on gaining access to begin trapping and rescue efforts.

RE: The LA Fires

We have a volunteer en route now, one will fly in Saturday to support transport efforts and another heading in on 1/31.

We are helping to coordinate efforts alongside several organizations and independent local volunteers.

Please help us help more, every dollar counts.

ASSERT is powered by dedicated staff and volunteers. Donations help us grow and make a further impact. Your money will go directly toward purchasing essential supplies, covering travel expenses for deployment of professionals, and general animal welfare. Donate Now! After extensive considerations, we have decided to stop operations effective 12/31/2024.

Thank you to all of our supporters for helping us rescue so many animals over the years.

Two days ago we lost an amazing leader, colleague, friend and devoted animal rescuer.

Margo Gresham joined our disaster rescue team over three years ago as an advisor and lead rescuer. She shared with us nearly 20 years of disaster rescue experience, techniques and knowledge. Her will to rescue was second to none.

Margo’s passing is a loss to all animal rescue and welfare, especially disaster animal rescue.

Always positive, always willing to help… Margo is already dearly missed by our entire team and beyond.

RIP, you amazing woman—your legacy will live on!
