Hi there! My name is Rebecca Mondragon. I’m the new Longmont Youth Specialist with Generations.
~I love spending time with my familia, traveling, cooking/baking, or doing anything outdoors. I love going to the archery range, going to the lake, and going to concerts. Me encanta la música!! I also enjoy camping and discovering new places.
~I am super excited to meet the youth in the program and connect with you all! 😊

A Boulder 18-year-old’s overdose began a string of 2021 deaths tied to fentanyl. Since then, 13 more fentanyl overdoses have been confirmed and the causes of six other deaths are pending the results of toxicology tests.
Boulder County Public Health has the following overdose prevention recommendations:
o Carry Narcan. Narcan can revive and save lives, but always call 911 if you suspect someone has overdosed. Colorado has the Good Samaritan Law; you will not be charged with a crime if you call 911. You could be charged if you leave the scene.
o Never use drugs alone. You can’t be saved if you are alone.
o Unless you picked up your own prescription at the pharmacy, don’t trust the strength.
o Start small with a low dose. You can always add more but you can’t subtract.
o Test your drugs using fentanyl strips. However, if it doesn’t alert to fentanyl it doesn’t mean it’s not there, it can still be in another untested part of the pill or another unknown synthetic.
o If you, friend, or family member know or suspect someone is using these pills, please advise them to carry Narcan. Narcan is available for free at Boulder County Public Health, CU students’ Wardenburg Health Center, local pharmacies without a prescription and is covered by most insurance plans

Fentanyl, which looks like oxycodone and Xanax, has overtaken he**in and methamphetamine as the leading cause of overdose death in Colorado.

What a blast we had this past week at our Fun Nights! Last Thursday we watched a scary movie and decorated masks. On Saturday we ate at Chili’s and then enjoy a night of Fright at Elitch’s 👻 🎃

Our leadership cohort, GLO, works on 2 large community service learning projects a year and for the Fall semester they decided to engage in their community by hosting a collection drive for immigrants & refugees, as well as working on an online resource manual with the Colorado Housing Asylum Network. On the 30th of September, GLO walked down Main street, and on October 7th they walked down Pearl Street, talking to a variety of businesses/community partners requesting community support in this project by hosting one of our decorated collection boxes for any community donated supplies through the month of November, and to be collected before Thanksgiving (but time frame is completely flexible to your needs). Ideally this wouldn’t add any work to your already busy work days, as we could come by weekly if the box tends to (hopefully) fill up quickly. To show community collaboration & appreciation, we would shout your business out on our Facebook & Instagram, as well as in our quarterly newsletter coming out in November (let me know if you’d like to receive it).

If you agree to be a host location, we have planned to drop off more flyers and a decorated collection box sometime between the 18th and 29th of October.

Thank you for your time, please don’t hesitate reaching out for any questions/comments/concerns.

What another beautiful evening with GLO! We walked down Pearl st. requesting business/community support for our collection drive for immigrants and refugees. We then celebrated this amazing community outreach by dining at Dushanbe Tea House which was, for many of them, their first time. We want to thank all the businesses we spoke with for being a great community support, especially Out Boulder for being so supportive in agreeing to host a donation box and being so welcoming to our youth.
We will be dropping off our decorated collection boxes to all the businesses in the next two weeks. So stay tuned!
