Public health is many things, and one role we deeply value is the work of our school nurses serving students across Jefferson County.

Today, we recognize Erin Ritchie, our Jefferson County Public Health School Nurse, for her dedication and strong partnership with district school nurses across the county to support student health and well-being.

Together, this strong network of school health professionals makes a meaningful difference every day.

We are grateful to all of our school nurses for their commitment to supporting the health and well-being of students, staff, and our entire school community. 💜

As we wrap up Public Health Week, we are honored to recognize one last amazing Public Health Nurse.

Our other spotlights featured baby photos of our staff, this one is a little different and perfectly fitting. Pictured here holding a young calf, Tonna O’Neill represents the roots that shaped her and the community she proudly serves.

Serving in many roles, including Disease Investigation Specialist, Immunization Nurse, Epidemiology Nurse, Maternal Child Health Nurse, and FICMMR Coordinator, she brings a wealth of knowledge and compassion to her work. At her core, Tonna is a Registered Nurse and Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) who "truly loves, loves, loves what she does".

What makes her work even more meaningful is that she serves the community she grew up in. The same people who helped shape and guide her. Giving back to “her people” isn’t just a job; it is her purpose.

She provides kind, compassionate, and high-quality care. All while creating a safe and welcoming space for patients, families, and coworkers, putting people first and treating everyone with respect.

Her work goes beyond individual care; she supports the health of families and the whole community. Her mission is rooted in providing holistic, high-quality care with kindness and compassion.

She has a special love for working with children and young people, inspired by their curiosity and excitement for learning. Those “teachable moments” and meaningful connections, especially during her time as a school nurse, are among the most rewarding parts of her journey.

Outside of work, she is a proud wife, mother, grandmother, and rancher’s daughter who enjoys time with her family and life on the ranch.

Thank you for your dedication and for making a difference every day in our community.
