Sunshine Fire provides protection to a ‘textbook’ wildland urban interface (WUI) community in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. We currently have two fire stations, housing four apparatus, with an average age of 26 years. Homes in our district range greatly in overall size and are nestled into steep mountainous terrain, frequently accessed by winding one-lane dirt driveways characterized by steep slopes and long driveways. SFPD actively participates in emergency response and training activities in surrounding Fire Protection Districts through automatic and mutual aid agreements and multi-agency monthly trainings designed to promote interoperability. We respond to County- and State-wide all-risk emergency situations and are regularly dispatched to large-scale wildland fire incidents in other parts of the Western United States.
