Emergency crews are responding to a wildfire near Whitehall.

There a a series of wildfires along I-90 between the Pipestone and Whitehall exits. Please SLOW DOWN and MOVE OVER in the area of the incidents.

Please avoid the area and do not call dispatch for information unless you have an emergency. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

[Wednesday, 9/2/26] The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for central and southwestern Jefferson County, in effect from 12pm today through 8pm Thursday. Communities impacted include Boulder, Basin, Elk Park, and Whitehall. Please avoid any activities that could spark a fire, as any fires that do start could spread rapidly.

[September 1st, 2026] On the afternoon of Monday August 31st, Jefferson County Deputy Charles Renfro was off duty enjoying a motorcycle ride when his machine experienced an issue which resulted in a crash. Deputy Renfro was wearing his helmet at the time of the incident and he thankfully survived. He is currently in a Billings hospital surrounded by family and friends. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office would like to express our gratitude to all the responders who assisted on the incident. Please join us in prayer and support for the Renfro family as they navigate the road ahead.

Update: the fire is contained and crews are mopping up.

Emergency crews are responding to a wildfire near Clancy.

The small fire is located in extreme northwest Jefferson County off of Newton Road. No structures are threatened at this time.

Please avoid the area and do not call dispatch for information unless you have an emergency. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

[Sunday, 8/23/26] The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for central and southwestern Jefferson County including the communities of Boulder, Basin, Elk Park, and Whitehall in effect from 1pm through 8pm today. Please avoid any activity that could spark a fire, as any fires that do start could spread rapidly.

🚫 Jefferson County remains in Stage 1 fire restrictions, meaning campfires and other open burning is prohibited on private land within the county. 🚫
