Veteran-related property tax exemptions due July 1

Boulder County homeowners may qualify for a property tax exemption if they are:

• A U.S. military veteran with a 100% permanent service-connected disability or has an unemployability status with less than 100% and was honorably discharged
• The surviving spouse of a qualifying veteran with a disability
• The surviving spouse of a Gold Star Veteran

Applications must be received by the Assessor’s Office by July 1 for the exemption to apply to the property tax bill you receive next year.

Veterans and eligible Gold Star spouses must own and live in the home as their primary residence as of January 1 of the application year. Surviving spouses of qualifying veterans should review the application for eligibility details.

$4 million is on the table for local nonprofits and housing partners. Worthy Cause applications are now open! Applications close at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Since 2000, Boulder County's Worthy Cause program has put tens of millions of dollars toward the buildings and spaces our community depends on.

Recent funding helped make possible:
• A new childcare center in Nederland with 65 slots for kids from infancy to age 7.
• An expanded food pantry and new community space at the OUR Center in Longmont.
• A new Boulder County Housing Authority building with 32 homes designed for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their caretakers.

If your organization needs capital funding for facility improvements, property acquisition, new construction, or debt reduction, this is for you.

Have questions? Submit them by July 13 and join our virtual Q&A on July 16.

Learn more and find the application at boco.org/WorthyCauseApplication.

The Clerk and Recorder's Office wants to help you avoid motor vehicle fraud. Check out their new series of fraud prevention tips - "Under the Hood."

Thinking about buying a car from an online marketplace? Think twice before you click "buy."

Scammers often use fake images, stolen photos, and false descriptions to trick buyers into sending money for vehicles that don't exist or aren't what they appear to be.

One of the simplest ways to protect yourself: always see a vehicle in person before sending any money.

Motor vehicle fraud is on the rise and takes many forms. As scammers become more sophisticated, it can be harder than ever to spot a deal that's too good to be true. We're here to help you become a savvy consumer and protect some of your most valuable assets, your vehicles.
