Kenda Stockton, teacher at Crawford County R-I, Bourbon Elementary School, receives Missouri Retired Teachers Association-Foundation $500 Grant!

MO Retired Teachers Foundation is an association of retired educators whose purpose is to promote the welfare of all retired school employees with a constant interest in supporting those who are currently in the public schools. Missouri Retired Teachers Association-Foundation is a tax-exempt organization for raising funds to carry out certain charitable, educational, scientific, and literary purposes of the MRTA. This year MRTA-F in Region 7 is giving seven $500 classroom grants to teachers, and one grant for PEERS (This includes any support personnel on staff.). All fourteen MRTA regions of the state are giving out $500 grants across their region. In Region 7 alone, winners are receiving $4,000. And MRTA members proudly raise this money themselves to present to those currently in the classrooms or in service areas across the state.

Kenda Stockton, of Bourbon Elementary School, of Crawford County R-I School District, 4th grade teacher, was the winner of one of the PSRS grants awarded in MRTA's Region 7.

Mrs. Stockton's grant was entitled "Making Math Magical with a Marketspace". The purpose of the grant is to "improve overall student achievement inn math through hands-on, collaborative, engaging experiences". Active engagement is vital as students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, while applying various mathematical strategies as they build resilience and work through challenging concepts. Areas to be addressed include multi-step geometry, and data analysis. The grant money will be used for an organization cart, task card supplies, STEM building kits, clipboards, manipulatives and task cards.

Mrs. Stockton was presented with a cashier's check for $500, a larger replica check to display, a certificate from MRTA and its Foundation President, Karen Miller, along with a letter of congratulations from MRTA Executive Director, Maria Walden. Members of MRTA and Region 7 Vice-President, Georgia White, the MRTA Foundation Board Representative, Linda Orscheln, Martin White and members of the Crawford County Unit, all members of MRTA Region 7, the staff of MRTA, all who were in attendance, and all educational retirees across Missouri who have raised this money through their funraising efforts, congratulate Kenda Stockton, of Bourbon Elementary School, on an excellent grant for her classroom.

The first-week jitters are officially behind us! The kids are settling into their routines, getting comfortable in their classrooms, and most importantly, getting down to the business of learning. It’s great to see our rooms filled with busy minds, new friendships, and plenty of learning happening. We’re off to a great start!
