Kankakee County Soil and Water Conservation District The K3SWCD exists to provide information and services regarding the conservation, development and management of the land and water.

We are dedicated to conserving Kankakee County's natural resources through sustainable farming initiatives, education and outreach, and locally led collaboration. Our mission at the Kankakee County Soil and Water Conservation District (K3SWCD) is to provide leadership and coordinate programs focusing technical, financial and educational assistance to help the landowner and the public protect, pres

erve and enhance our natural resources. Working closely with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), we help district residents to implement practices that conserve their soil, water and other natural resources.

The Illinois Department of Agricultureโ€™s Climate Smart Agriculture Program is underway!

Producers can now pre-enroll for the program, which offers funding to support no-till and strip-till practices that improve soil health, reduce erosion, and build long-term sustainability.

Our District Tree & Shrub and Pond Stocking sales are live!

Our fish sale occurs each spring and fall, but beginning this year our tree sale will only occur annually in the spring. Grass carp are due March 17, with all other fish orders due March 24. Tree orders are due on March 31. Order forms are available for download on our website at https://www.kankakeecountyswcd.org/sales

SCARCE and University of Illinois Extension have listings of pumpkin smashes in Northeast Illinois and all across the state. SWCDs can find their local event and help promote.

For pumpkin carvers - keep organics out of landfills, return nutrients to the soil, promote soil health on farms, and make waterways cleaner by composting gourds.
