Thank you to Vandyke School for letting us come in and talk to the kids about fire safety. They listened really well and had great comments and questions.
We did give them two homework assignments! How old are the smoke detectors in the home? Replace them if they are over 10 years old. You can look at the manufacturer sticker usually located on the bottom of the detector.
Where should everyone meet if there is a fire in the home? Sometimes it's by a certain tree, a swing set, at a neighbors, etc. Just be careful if you are going to have kids stand by or cross a roadway because we're going to be coming.

Be careful outdoors today and tomorrow with the air quality being hazardous. It is going to affect everyone, but especially people with breathing issues. Some tips: keep windows closed. Shut off air exchanger for a few days. Use a HEPA filter with your furnace. Utilize a HEPA room air cleaner. You can make a DYI air cleaner by using a box fan, a good filter and some clamps (clamp the filter to the back of the fan so air goes through it and is cleaned.)
Go here for current conditions:

AirNow is your one-stop source for air quality data. Our recently redesigned site highlights air quality in your local area first, while still providing air quality information at state, national, and world views.
