COMMUNITY INVITATION

Subject: Dedication Ceremony Honoring Fallen Bow Officer

Augustus B. Farmer

On Monday, June 15th, 2026, at 9:30 AM, the Bow Police Department will host a dedication ceremony in front of the Safety Center flagpole to unveil a permanent granite memorial honoring Officer Augustus B. Farmer.

June 15th marks exactly 133 years to the day since Officer Farmer made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty serving the Town of Bow on June 15th, 1893.

For over a century, his sacrifice was quiet. Following recent historical research, Officer Farmer’s legacy has now been rightfully and permanently recognized on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall in Washington, D.C., the New Hampshire Memorial wall in Concord, and the Officer Down Memorial Page. This local dedication finally brings that honor home.

We invite all Bow residents, neighbors, and friends to stand with us as we unveil his memorial plaque and ensure his name is forever woven into the history of the town he protected.

The outdoor ceremony will be brief (approximately 25 minutes), featuring a reading of Officer Farmer's story and a formal unveiling. Following the ceremony, we invite everyone inside the Safety Center training room for coffee, refreshments.

Please join us on this significant anniversary as we pay a long-overdue debt of honor to one of our own.

****Male arrested after a hit and run Motor Vehicle Crash****

On Monday, May 25, 2026, at 0915 hours, the Bow Police Department responded to the intersection of Crescent Drive and South Bow Road for a report of a motor vehicle crash. The caller informed responding officers that someone had stolen his vehicle and crashed it. Upon arrival, it was determined that the caller was actually the driver of the vehicle and had fled the scene on foot prior to officers arriving. The male suspect was identified as Shawn McComiskey 23, of Goffstown, NH. McComiskey was located on foot by a Hooksett Police Officer and New Hampshire State Trooper who were providing a perimeter after a NH State Police K9 was deployed. McComiskey was charged with Conduct After an Accident, False Report to Law Enforcement, and Operating After Suspension Subsequent Offense. McComiskey was out on bail for a previous crime at the time of this offense and was held without bail pending arraignment on May 26, 2026, in Concord District Court.

NEWS RELEASE: “JOIN THE NH CLIQUE”: INCREASED SEAT BELT ENFORCEMENT PATROLS BEGIN

CONCORD, N.H. – Beginning this week and continuing through May 31, state and local law enforcement agencies across the nation are stepping up their enforcement efforts for drivers and their passengers who are not wearing their seat belts.

In New Hampshire, 121 law enforcement agencies are scheduled to participate in the “Join the NH Clique” campaign, utilizing funding provided by the New Hampshire Office of Highway Safety (NHOHS). State law requires anyone under the age of 18 to be secured by either a seat belt or a child safety seat. It is a driver’s responsibility to ensure that all child passengers are properly restrained.

While seat belt use in the state is among the lowest in the United States, wearing a seat belt is the single most effective decision a person can make to protect themselves and others in the event of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“We urge all drivers and passengers to wear their seat belts on every trip, without exception,” said New Hampshire State Police Capt. Vincent Grieco, Enforcement Liaison to the NHOHS. “Sadly, choosing not to buckle up continues to result in preventable tragedies across our state. Through this campaign, we aim to save lives.”

In 2025, about 25% of victims of deadly vehicle crashes on New Hampshire roads were not wearing seat belts.

Six unbelted occupants, including drivers and passengers, have been killed in vehicle crashes to date in 2026. In 2025, 34 people who were not wearing a seat belt were killed. In 2024, 38 unbelted people were killed.

National Police Week 2026:

As we observe National Police Week, the Bow Police Department joins agencies across the country in honoring the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. This year holds a special significance for our department and our community.

We are pleased that after more than 132 years, Officer Augustus B. Farmer will be added to both the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., and the New Hampshire Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Concord.

Officer Farmer’s End of Watch was June 15, 1893, following a struggle while he was attempting to make an arrest as a sworn officer. A Civil War veteran and dedicated public servant, Officer Farmer’s story as a Bow Police Officer was nearly lost to history until recent efforts ensured his name would finally be etched alongside his fellow fallen brothers and sisters.

We invite you to learn more about his story and service by visiting his page on the Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP):

We remember not only Officer Farmer but all those who served with courage and distinction.
