Sometimes a story has a happy ending because someone chose to stop and help.

Officer Miller recently responded to a call from a concerned citizen who had rescued a kitten from the side of Crain Highway near Walmart in Bowie. The caller reported witnessing the kitten being thrown from a vehicle onto the highway and immediately stopped to help.

Thanks to his quick actions, the kitten was brought to safety and given a second chance.

We are grateful to community members who take the time to help animals in need and to report situations like these. ❤️🐾

If you witness animal cruelty or abandonment, please contact Animal Control as soon as possible.

A Day in the Life of Animal Control🐢🚨

This week’s guest star: one very determined snapping turtle trying across 197 like she had somewhere important to be😭

Luckily, a kind resident safely got her into a bin before traffic turned into a real-life game of frogger: turtle edition. I came by for the pickup and transported her to Second Chance Wildlife Center in Clarksburg, MD for care 🫶🏽

You guys have been SPOILING us with the interesting calls lately😂

Another day, another snake eviction 🐍🏡

POV: Animal Control keeps becoming Snake Transport Services 🚕💨

This little guy was found curled up in a wreath outside someone’s door, not inside the bathroom this time 😭 Featuring: Officer Prince, Officer Miller, one pillowcase, and a very unbothered snake.

Safely relocated and released back where he belongs 🌿💚

🐾 Every call tells a different story. Every reunion matters. 🏡

This video gives a behind-the-scenes look at how Animal Control helps reunite lost pets with their families and highlights some of the tools that make those reunions possible, including microchips and identification collars such as Apple AirTag/ID tags. 💙

A microchip is a small form of permanent identification that can be scanned by shelters, veterinarians, and animal control officers to help locate an owner if a pet becomes lost. ID collars and tracking devices can also provide an added layer of protection and help pets get home faster.

Within minutes of each other, Animal Control received a found dog and reunited another with its owner. Two different calls. One shared mission: helping pets get home safely. 🐶🐱

Please remember to keep your pet’s identification information current and regularly check that collars, tags, and microchip information are up to date.
