The Morgenthaler's Potter's Castle

The Morgenthaler's Potter's Castle Potter's Castle was named by the town folks during its construction in 1876. Today, as a historical site, it has been nearly fully restored.

Built in 1876 by Eramus and Mary Potter. Patsy and I bought the house in 2011. After six years of extensive restoration we opened our doors to WKU students for housing. Students use the first two floors with five bedrooms; library/study; game room; living room; dining room; kitchen; laundry. The third floor is our apartment. "The Castle" was home to the Potters for 30 years. Erasmus, known as Raz,

was the son of Pleasant Potter, who established a women's college which evolved into WKU. From the early 1900s to 1950 the house was home to various families. followed by several families. In the early 1990's the house began its restoration. It was purchased by John and Alisa Carmichael, who took on the major restoration -- including removing the twelve apartments and the brick facade which covered the entire house. The Kentucky Heritage Council presented "The Castle" with the Ida Lee Willis Award for restoration in 2016. The Bowling Green Landmark Association has supported and recognized the work with their Heritage Award and the Jean Thomason Award.
