Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities works to support, empower, and inspire all people. As an organization we strive to provide individuals with the best choices and options in education, health care, employment, recreation, and community involvement across the life span. We receive support from many community members, civic and religious groups, BGSU and local businesses that help us t

o be successful in achieving our mission. Without the dedication of hard working employees and human service agencies we would not be where we are today. We know that within the heart of each community, EVERYONE belongs!

What if printed text could be read aloud with the swipe of a pen?

The Scanmarker Pro is a portable text-to-speech device that scans printed words and reads them aloud in real time. It can also translate text into multiple languages, look up words and phrases, adjust reading speed, and even record voice memos or notes.

Tools like Scanmarker Pro can help make reading and accessing information easier while supporting greater independence at school, work, and in everyday life.

If you think this device may be beneficial, contact your SSA to request an individual health supports consult. Providers seeking training or consultation may email [email protected].

September is all about celebrating the people who support, empower, and inspire. every single day. Throughout the month, WCBDD is going ALL IN for DSPs!

Direct Support Professionals play an incredibly important role in the lives of people with developmental disabilities. They are advocates, encouragers, teachers, problem-solvers, trusted supports and so much more. Their work helps people build independence, make meaningful connections, experience their communities and live lives they choose.

While DSP Appreciation Week is September 13โ€“19, we believe one week simply isn't enough. Throughout September, we'll be sharing the faces and stories behind direct support, highlighting the relationships they build and giving our community a closer look at the impact DSPs make each and every day.

To the incredible DSPs throughout Wood County - we see you, we value you and we thank you for all you do.

We're ALL IN for DSPs. ๐Ÿ’™

Thank you for the smiles, the memories, (and the workout.) A special thank you to State Representative Haraz N. Ghanbari and Wood County Auditor for the continued support.

| Meet our August DSP of the Month, Felicia Wise!

Felicia is an Independent Provider who has spent the past six years supporting individuals with disabilities in different roles. Today, she works with adults and is passionate about helping the people she supports access their communities, experience new things, and find a little more joy and peace in their everyday lives.

Her nominator, SSA Jessica Root, describes Felicia as kind, patient, and person-centered, always taking the time to truly get to know the people she supports.

Felicia summed up the heart behind her work perfectly: โ€œNo one needs to be doing it all alone.โ€

Congratulations, Felicia, and thank you for the love, compassion, and support you bring to others. We are proud to recognize you as our August DSP of the Month!
