Tonight marks the beginning of a new era for the BGFD. The Board of Commissioners approved our department’s first lateral class of probationary firefighters.

This initiative has been several years in the making, and we’re excited to see it finally come to life as these four certified firefighters begin a four-week academy with the BGFD.

Please join us in congratulating Anderson Young, Cameron Stine, Cary King, and Tristen Carter as they begin this new chapter and their careers with the Bowling Green Fire Department.

At 5:09 this morning, BGFD was dispatched to a residential structure fire on Kami Dr. Arriving crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the house. They quickly initiated fire attack and searched the residence. There are no reported injuries and the fire remains under investigation at this time.

The Bowling Green Fire Department’s 2025 Annual Report is now available.

Our Annual Report serves as a highlight reel of the past year, showcasing the work, accomplishments, and improvements made to better serve the Bowling Green community. It also provides a transparent look at gaps in our performance and opportunities to improve.

We hope this report offers insight into both the service and professionalism of our personnel and the progress made within the Department in 2025.

A big thank you to the BGFD for giving us a behind-the-scenes tour of the fire station today! We learned so much about the important work firefighters do every day and what it takes to become one. We appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge and serve our community! 🔥👨🏻‍🚒

The Bowling Green Fire Department has been awarded recertification as an ISO Class 1 Department.

Achieving an ISO Class 1 certification places the BGFD as one of the top-rated fire departments nationwide. In addition to ISO Class 1 certification, the Department is accredited through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI), Fire Chief Justin Brooks said, “The journey towards making it better is never ending. Keeping our Class 1 rating only validates the need to stay on the course of continuous improvement. Being 1 of 127 career fire departments across the nation to be both accredited and hold a class 1 ISO rating, sets the high standards we keep for ourselves.”

The BGFD first achieved an ISO Class 1 score following a review in 2020. Chief Brooks said, “As grateful as we are today for many things that are viewed as successful, we stay steadfast in the pursuit of excellence and we do this not for ratings or recognition, but we do it because the citizens are worthy of our very best.”

Last week we said “see you later” to several longtime members of the BGFD family, this week we celebrate those who have stepped up, ready to fill the boots of those who came before them.

This afternoon, the Board of Commissioners approved the promotions of Assistant Chief Dustin Jones, Captain Tyler Cannon, Engineer Matt Napier, Engineer Zach Shuffett, and Training Instructor Nick Atkins.

Each of these individuals successfully completed the promotional process and earned the opportunity to serve in their new roles. Please join us in congratulating them on this well-deserved accomplishment as they begin this next chapter of service to our department and community.
