🏦June 2nd - Wood County Planning Commission Update:
This evening, I attended the Wood County Planning Commission meeting, where a re-zoning request in Middleton Township was discussed and voted on.
The request involved 13 parcels located North of State Route 582 along State Route 25, as well as at Mercer Road and 582. The parcels are outlined in red in the map below. The application asked to change these parcels from their current Residential (R4) and Agricultural (A1) classifications to Light Industrial (M1), stating the need is for construction logistics. These parcels are adjacent to the current data center project area and do not include flood lanes or wetlands.
County residents were given the opportunity to share feedback and concerns. A Perrysburg resident who was unable to attend submitted her comments via email, which were read aloud to the board. She suggested the commission postpone making a decision until Meta could clarify whether the neighboring Apollo gas facility would be permitted to use the land for storage.
Faced with this request, the Planning Commission board had three options for their vote: 1) approve the re-zoning request, 2) postpone it to gather more information, or 3) deny the request.
Following the public comments and board discussion, the Planning Commission voted 4 to 2 to recommend approval of the re-zoning request.
📝Re-Zoning Process Next Steps:
It is important to note this vote is a Wood County Planning Commission recommendation, not a final decision. The process includes multiple steps before final approval:
• Middleton Township Zoning Commission: The recommendation now comes back to our local township level. The Zoning Commission will discuss and potentially vote on the request at their next regular meeting on Wednesday, June 10th at 7:00 PM at the Middleton Township Building.
• Middleton Township Trustees: Following the Zoning Commission's review and vote, the Trustees will then discuss and vote, as the final decision making authority, likely during the June 17th meeting.
Decisions of this magnitude require thoughtful care, and I do not take my responsibility lightly. Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend tonight, ask tough questions, and stay engaged as we navigate these complex decisions together.
