ONE YEAR LATER…

It’s hard to believe it has been one year since I made the difficult decision to close this location. I have to admit, it has definitely been an adjustment. However, looking back, I can truly say that God has blessed me with new opportunities and new ways to serve.

While our doors at this location may have closed, Balance continues to grow and provide services through telehealth, school-based, and home-based services. We remain committed to meeting families where they are and providing quality, compassionate care.

We are excited about what the future holds and look forward to continuing to provide you with EXCELLENCE IN SERVICES!

A heartfelt THANK YOU to our amazing families and community partners who continue to trust us to care for your families. Your support, trust, and continued partnership mean more than you know.

One chapter closed… but God opened the door to a new one.
And we are walking into this next chapter with gratitude, faith, and excitement! ✨
Thank you for continuing to grow with BALANCE. 💜

Today at Recovery Plus we practiced anger-management techniques by learning to recognize what happens in our bodies when we become angry.

Each participant was given Play-Doh and invited to create their very own “anger monster”—a creative way to give their feelings a shape and personality.
Participants also identified what their bodies feel like when they are angry.

Their answers were wonderfully creative! Some described rabbits 🐰, lions 🦁, and even unicorns 🦄!

This activity helped us understand that anger can look and feel different for everyone. Our bodies may give us clues through a racing heart, tense muscles, a hot face, clenched fists, or the urge to run, roar, or react.

The goal isn't to make anger disappear. It's learning to recognize our body's signals, pause, and choose healthy ways to respond.

Today we practiced: Notice it. Name it. Create it. Understand it. Manage it.

Sometimes giving our BIG feelings a little shape can help us understand them a whole lot better!

Bump in the Road: Leader Brain vs. Lizard Brain

Today our group was divided into teams and challenged to work together using communication, problem-solving, and emotional regulation.
Each team was given a real-life scenario to discuss, such as: "You accidentally rip your sister's jacket while playing tag. What would you do?"
After working together, the team captain stepped into the "Bump in the Road" square and shared their team's solution. The opposing team then decided whether the response came from the Leader Brain (thinking before acting, taking responsibility, solving the problem calmly) or the Lizard Brain (reacting with anger, blaming others, or avoiding responsibility).
Teams earned Leader Brain points for thoughtful, responsible responses, and the team with the most points was declared the winner!
This activity encouraged children to:
Practice teamwork and respectful discussion.
Think through the consequences of their choices.
Strengthen problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
Recognize the difference between reacting with a Lizard Brain and responding with a Leader Brain.

The best part? There were no wrong answers—just opportunities to learn, grow, and strengthen the thinking skills that help us navigate life's "bumps in the road."

One of my 7-year-old clients gave me a bracelet she made just for me. She held onto it for a few weeks until she had the chance to give it to me, and that alone made it incredibly special. My favorite part? The way she spelled my name. It wasn't perfect by adult standards, but to me, it was absolutely perfect. Every letter reflects her effort, her thoughtfulness, and the pride she took in creating something with love.Moments like this remind me that therapy isn't measured only by the big breakthroughs.Sometimes it's found in a handmade bracelet, a child's excitement to give a gift, and the trust they place in someone they feel safe with.

This little bracelet is more than beads and letters. It's a reminder that connection, kindness, and feeling seen can leave the biggest impact. I will treasure it always. 💜

I absolutely loved this activity... we decided to name it CALM 🤣♥️

Feelings Puzzle 🧩

Today, everyone worked to create a feelings puzzle! Each person received two puzzle pieces and was invited to draw, color, or decorate them to show how they were feeling.
This simple activity opened the door to meaningful conversations about emotions. We talked about how every feeling—whether it's happiness, excitement, sadness, worry, frustration, or calm—is a valuable piece of who we are. Just like a puzzle isn't complete without every piece, our emotional well-being grows when we recognize, express, and accept all of our feelings.
There are no "good" or "bad" emotions—only emotions that help us understand ourselves better. When children are given safe and creative ways to express their feelings, they build emotional awareness, confidence, and healthy coping skills.

🧩 Every feeling matters. Every piece belongs.

Zones of Regulation: When BIG Emotions Spill Over

One way to help your child explore the Zones of Regulation is through a fun volcano experiment using vinegar, baking soda, and food coloring. Ask your child to chose a color that represents a Zone of Regulation and created their own unique "emotion volcano."

As the ingredients mixed, the volcano bubbled up and overflowed, showing them what can happen when our emotions become too big to keep inside. Just like the volcano, everyone experiences moments when feelings build up and may "spill over." Feeling angry, worried, excited, frustrated, or overwhelmed is a normal part of being human.

This activity helps children understand that all emotions are okay, but it's important to notice when our feelings are growing so we can use healthy coping strategies before they erupt. This is a great opportunity to talk about using tools such as deep breathing, taking a break, asking for help, using a fidget, or talking to a trusted adult to help bring our emotions back to a manageable level.

Key Message:

"Big emotions are not bad—they're signals. When we recognize them early and use our regulation tools, we can respond in healthy ways instead of letting our emotions spill over."
