City Council approved updates to our zoning code on Monday evening that will make it easier for residents and businesses to navigate the permitting process and help preserve the character of our neighborhoods:

✅ Permit process streamlined and available online
✅ New signage options to help local businesses attract customers
✅ Approved permits now valid for one year from the date of approval (rather than the application date)
✅ Limits on LED sign brightness
✅ Allowing homeowners to maintain swingsets, treehouses, trellises, decks, and similar accessory uses in front yards

These updates will make local government work better by cutting unnecessary red tape, streamlining the permitting process, and giving families greater flexibility in how they use their property.

Thank you to our Planning Commission, staff, and everyone who provided feedback throughout this process.

Data centers have been the number one issue I’ve heard about as I’ve traveled Wood County. What residents have described to me is a symptom of a bigger problem: major decisions being made without transparency, without public input, and without any real accountability to the people who have to live with the consequences — on their electric bills, their water supply, their farmland, and their roads. This has already cost Ohioans $1.6 billion in tax breaks alone.

Our local communities should be the beneficiaries of economic development, not the victims. As county commissioner, I will:

✅ Oppose tax abatements that don’t include enforceable community benefits
✅ Push for transparency and public input from day one
✅ Support Project Labor Agreements and local hiring
✅ Work with townships and municipalities to strengthen local protections
✅ Advocate for state-level reforms that restore local control
✅ Never sign an NDA on a project that affects the people I represent

We can create good-paying jobs without selling out our communities. Growth should make efficient use of existing infrastructure, reflect community priorities, and deliver real, lasting returns — not just short-term gains for trillion-dollar corporations.

Wood County deserves both opportunity and accountability. I will fight for both.

Today we honor the men and women who answered the call and gave their lives in service to our country, and remember our responsibility to build a nation worthy of their sacrifice.

Short-term rentals like Airbnb and VRBO have become more common in Bowling Green, and many residents have raised concerns about noise, parking, safety, and the impact on neighborhood quality and housing availability.

Last night, City Council adopted regulations to help address these concerns. That includes:

📋 Annual registration requirements
👥 Occupancy limits
📞 A local contact person to manage the property and respond to complaints
🎉 Requiring these properties to pay our 4% hotel/motel tax, which helps fund community events

I appreciate everyone who took the time to share feedback throughout this process. Good policy relies on residents sharing their thoughts and concerns.

Today is International Workers’ Day, and across the world people are honoring the labor movement that built the modern middle class.

The 8-hour workday. The weekend. Workplace safety laws. Child labor protections. None of it was given freely. All of it was won by working people who organized, marched, and refused to back down.

In Wood County, that legacy lives on in our union halls, our trades, our teachers, our nurses, our firefighters, and every worker who clocks in to keep this community running. When I talk about delivering for Wood County, I mean delivering for all.

To every worker out there today: thank you. Your labor is the foundation everything else is built on.
