This is the DEATH MASK of a young woman who drowned in the River Seine in the 1880s. As was customary in those days, her corpse was put on display in the Paris mortuary, in the hope that someone might recognize her and claim her body. The pathologist on duty became entranced by the girl with the enigmatic half-smile, and so he commissioned a plaster cast made of her face. This mask was replicated many times over. She became known as "L'Inconnue de la Seine,” or “The Unknown Woman of the Seine.”

In 1955, a toymaker named Asmund Laerdal created what we now know as the CPR doll. Asmund wanted his mannequin to have a natural appearance. Remembering a mask on the wall of his grandparents' house many years earlier, he decided that the L'Inconnue de la Seine would become the face of Resusci Anne. So you see, this anonymous woman who drowned in the 19th century is responsible for saving many, many lives the world over. It is said that she has the most kissed face of all time. I hope you enjoyed this little #histmed tale!

We were Happy to participate in the Food Drive this year! Thanks to all who donated!

Thank you to all who stopped out at the Depew/Lancaster community food drive this past Saturday!

Each donation benefitted food pantries throughout the area, bringing in hundreds of boxes of food and $3,000 cash to help them continue serving those in need. This year’s event was a huge success and I was happy to spend my afternoon volunteering for a great cause.

PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE: Hi Bowmansville family! We are having a parade for the baby and jack as they both have milestone birthdays during quarantine! The baby will be 1 and jack will be 5! You all know jack LOVES fire trucks and people so I’m asking if you can be a part of this parade! We will be meeting in the south lancaster high school parking lot at 5:45-5:50 for a 6 o clock parade. Let’s make this birthday one he can remember. We were in a friends parade and he loved it. We can’t party like we want to but we can make lots of noise and celebrate that way! Let’s do this! Drop a comment if you are able to be a part of his and the baby’s special day! Thank you so much!
I would like to thank my brother and sister firefighters for their best efforts last night on Genesee. Although not a save, the family truely appreciates your rapid response and hard work! Thanks again
I’m pretty quick to label young kids useless because of their actions, but I will definitely take a moment to recognize one of our explorers . This young lady rode her bicycle at 3:45 am to make the truck for an ems call in 23 degree weather. That’s one hell of an example of dedication. Rachel Kedzierski you should be proud of your sister Anya kedzierski
This is from a friend. So I have my grandpa Dress Fireman coat from when he was chief in 1977 for the Buffalo Fire department.. i feel bad cuz it just sit in the closet. I'm not really sure what i should do with it.. Hey Bowmansville!! Can I come to your next Company meeting to talk briefly about the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the work we are doing to build homes for severely injured veterans in WNY and across the country?? We are holding our 3rd Annual Buffalo Tunnel to Towers 5k on Sept 8th. This is the largest 9/11 Remembrance event in WNY! Every year we have a huge First Responder presence and competition between fire departments. Let me know when I can come and meet with you.
