UPDATE (9 AM - 3/15): The weather is improving and road crews are working as quickly as possible to clear roads, but there is still a lot of blowing snow and hazardous driving conditions.

Please continue to avoid unnecessary travel this morning and monitor SD 511 for current road conditions.

The US National Weather Service Rapid City South Dakota has a Winter Storm Warning in effect starting tonight and continuing into Sunday which covers areas of Pennington County.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation has announced that I-90 will be closed tonight at 11 PM Mountain Time from Wall (Exit 110 to Sioux Falls (Exit 395). SD DOT is encouraging people to NOT use county or other back roads to try to avoid the interstate closure, as those areas will likely also be impacted by the forecasted weather.

If traveling eastbound, there are very few lodging options east of Rapid City. Considering staying in Rapid City rather than trying to find lodging elsewhere.

This weekend 27 personnel representing several agencies from across the black hills have been completing their basic wildland training. We appreciate all the students and instructors dedicating your time and giving up your weekend to better your communities.
