Family support for cadets is so important to their involvement, confidence, and progression in the program.
Last night at Lincoln Country Squadron, C/SrAm Opp was fortunate to have the support of his grandparents, parents, and all of his brothers and sisters. Having family there to encourage, celebrate, and support a cadet’s achievements can make a tremendous difference.
With this kind of support behind him, there’s no doubt that Cadet Opp has a bright future ahead in the program. We’re excited to see just how far he will go!

Two of the major awards at the Civil Air Patrol National Conference went to members of the South Dakota Wing!

 Lt Col Buck DeWeese received the Brewer Award for lifetime achievement in Aerospace Education.

 Col Michael Marek was named Malcolm Kyser Communications Officer of the Year.

Congratulations to both Lt Col DeWeese and Col Marek on these well-deserved honors! Your dedication and service to Civil Air Patrol are truly outstanding.

The South Dakota Wing's combined Aerospace Education and Emergency Services Academy was packed with accomplishments this weekend!

22 cadets earned sUAS (drone) awards
11 cadets earned basic STEM badges, while 11 more advanced toward theirs
12 members completed introductory communications user training
Numerous ground team and radio direction-finding tasks completed
An unforgettable opportunity to meet astronaut Fred Haise over Zoom.
The weekend concluded with a successful real-world line search that located a missing phone - a great example of training put into action.

SD Wing Aerospace Education Academy included time with Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise. He told them about his career and how the crew survived the Apollo service module explosion. He also answered the cadets' questions. Awesome experience for all.
