Town of Boxford Government Organization, Town of Boxford, Massachusetts Boxford is a rural, geographically large town with almost no commercial development.

The Town was incorporated in 1685. At that time it was home to approximately 40 families. Today the estimated population is 8,600. Heavily forested with many scenic hiking tails, Boxford is also home to numerous lakes, ponds, streams, wildlife, flora and fauna and has received the prestigious Tree City USA award for the fifth consecutive year. The Town has a five member Board of Selectmen and an o

pen town meeting form of government. There are two elementary schools in town, Harry Lee Cole School (grades K-2) and Spofford Pond School (grades3-6). Middle and High School students attend Masconomet Regional School. Boxford is a bucolic suburb with easy access to major highways.

The Town of Boxford joins the Boxford Police Department in mourning the passing of Officer Robert “Rob” Smith.
Rob joined the Boxford Police Department in 2021 after many years of service to communities throughout the North Shore. We are grateful for his dedicated service to Boxford and for the professionalism and commitment he brought to our community.
Our thoughts are with Rob’s family, friends, and his fellow officers at the Boxford Police Department during this very difficult time.

📣 Build Your Engineering Career—and Help Build Boxford’s Future

The Town of Boxford is hiring for a newly created Engineering Project Manager position within the Department of Public Works.

This is an exciting opportunity to become immersed in civil engineering, public infrastructure, and municipal project management. The person selected will work closely with the DPW Superintendent/Town Engineer and have opportunities to help plan, design, procure, and oversee a wide variety of projects, including:

• Roadway reconstruction and design
• Bridge and culvert construction
• Drainage and stormwater improvements
• Municipal buildings and facilities
• Traffic safety enhancements
• Parks and recreation projects
• Other capital and public works initiatives

These projects directly improve services for residents while strengthening the Town’s infrastructure, protecting critical public assets, and making Boxford more resilient to future rainfall and flooding events.

This is also an especially exciting time to join the Boxford DPW. The department expects to move into a new, state-of-the-art facility by the end of this year and is embracing modern technologies, data-driven infrastructure management, and industry best practices. The Engineering Project Manager will have the opportunity to help support that continued modernization.

The position offers exposure to every stage of a public project, from initial planning and engineering design through procurement, contract administration, construction oversight, and completion. It will also play an important role in implementing the Town’s Capital Improvement Program and advancing new initiatives.

The position is full-time. Entry-level candidates with relevant internships, co-op experience, or significant related coursework may also be considered.

🚧 ROAD WORK NOTICE 🚧

Beginning Wednesday, August 12, the Town’s paving contractor will begin road reconstruction on:

• Middleton Road — Elm Street to Main Street
• Main Street — Topsfield Road to 70 Main Street

Reconstruction is expected to take one to two days, with work occurring between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

Paving is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, August 18, and Wednesday, August 19. The schedule is weather-dependent and may change due to unforeseen circumstances.

Residents and motorists should expect noise, vibration, dust, and traffic delays. Please allow extra time when traveling through these areas and use caution around the work zones.

🎉 August 3, 2026, is Ellen Guerin Day in the Town of Boxford!

The Boxford Select Board has proclaimed today “Ellen Guerin Day” in recognition of Ellen’s final day as the Town’s Treasurer/Collector and her remarkable 28 years of service to the Boxford community.

Since 1998, Ellen has provided exceptional stewardship of the Town’s financial resources through prudent investment management, effective cash-flow oversight, responsible debt administration, and the collection of municipal revenues. She has guided Boxford through changing economic conditions, annual audits, capital-planning initiatives, and countless Town Meetings—always providing steady leadership, invaluable institutional knowledge, and sound financial management.

Ellen’s expertise and dedication have contributed significantly to Boxford’s continued fiscal stability, including the maintenance of the Town’s coveted AAA bond rating and its recent receipt of the Government Finance Officers Association’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. She leaves the Town in excellent financial condition and has made a lasting impact on the community she has served so faithfully.

🎉 Happy Paula Fitzsimmons Day!

The Boxford Select Board has proclaimed Thursday, July 23, 2026, as “Paula Fitzsimmons Day” in recognition of her more than two decades of dedicated service to the community.

Paula has served on the Zoning Board of Appeals since 2004, including many years as Chair, and represented Boxford on the Masconomet Regional School Committee from 2010 through 2017. Throughout her service, she has brought thoughtful leadership, sound judgment, and a strong commitment to fairness, public education, and civic engagement. Her work has helped preserve Boxford’s rural character and encouraged residents to participate meaningfully in local government.

The Select Board presented Paula with a proclamation at its July 13 meeting. Thank you to State Representative and State Senator Bruce Tarr for joining us and presenting Paula with proclamations from the Massachusetts House of Representatives and State Senate.

📜 Dan Volchok Day – July 21, 2026 🎉

At its July 13th meeting, the Boxford Select Board proudly proclaimed Tuesday, July 21, 2026, as "Dan Volchok Day" in recognition of Dan's many years of dedicated service to the Boxford and Masconomet communities.

Dan served on the Masconomet Regional School Committee from 2002 to 2020 and most recently on the Boxford Finance Committee from 2021 to 2026. Throughout nearly a quarter century of volunteer service, Dan has been a thoughtful leader, a strong advocate for public education, and a trusted voice on municipal finance and long-range planning. His contributions have helped strengthen both our schools and the Town's financial foundation.

With his recent decision to step down from the Finance Committee, Dan is concluding a remarkable chapter of public service that has benefited Boxford residents and the greater Masconomet community for nearly 25 years. His willingness to generously share his time, expertise, and leadership has left a lasting impact on the community.

The Select Board was honored to recognize Dan's extraordinary commitment to civic engagement and public service. We were also pleased to welcome State Senator Bruce Tarr and State Representative Adrienne Ramos, who joined the celebration and presented Dan with proclamations from the Massachusetts Senate and House of Representatives in recognition of his many contributions to public service.
