• Obscene or explicit Boyd is on State Highway 114 seven miles south of Decatur in southern Wise County. In the early 1890s farmers settled at the site, in the curve of the North Fork of the Trinity River. The community was originally referred to as Greasy Bend

because the area was used to fatten hogs. After the Rock Island line reached the town in 1893, the settlement was renamed Parkhurst in honor of a railroad official. The community received a post office branch in September 1893. Sometime later, railroad officials complained that Parkhurst might become confused with Park Springs, a town just down the line, and Parkhurst citizens selected the name Boyd for their town, in honor of H. The Boyd community incorporated in 1895 and soon became a retail point for area farmers. Until the 1940s cotton and livestock were the area's principal agricultural products; afterward Boyd became a center for melons. In the late 1950s the town began to serve as a bedroom community for citizens working in Fort Worth. Its population increased from 496 to 525 between 1940 and 1960 and grew steadily thereafter. In 1990 Boyd reported a population of 1,041 and forty-five businesses; in 2000 the community had 1,099 inhabitants and 152 businesses. BIBLIOGRAPHY:

BOYD, TEXAS - The Boyd Police Department is conducting an investigation into a reported hazing incident alleged to have occurred at Boyd High School on or about September 3, 2026.

Upon receiving the report, officers initiated an investigation and are actively gathering information, reviewing available evidence, and conducting interviews to determine the facts surrounding the incident. The purpose of the investigation is to establish whether any violations of Texas law or other applicable policies occurred.

The Boyd Police Department takes all reports involving the safety and well-being of students seriously. We are committed to conducting a thorough, impartial, and professional investigation while ensuring that all individuals involved are treated fairly and respectfully. This matter remains under active investigation.

Because the investigation may involve juvenile individuals and is ongoing, the department is limited in the amount of information that can be released at this time. No additional details regarding the identities of those involved or the specific circumstances of the incident will be provided while investigative activities are underway.

Anyone who may have information relevant to this investigation is encouraged to contact the Boyd Police Department at (940) 433-8400.

The City of Boyd is proud to recognize Danielle Bowen on an incredible professional achievement—attaining her Level 3 Court Administrator Certification!

Danielle was recently recognized by the Texas Court Clerks Association and Boyd City Council for reaching this milestone, becoming one of only 164 Level 3 Court Administrators in the entire State of Texas!

What makes this accomplishment even more impressive is the incredible pace at which she completed all of the requirements. From classes and conferences to court observations, reports, testing, and countless hours of preparation, Danielle worked diligently to achieve this certification in a very short amount of time.

The City of Boyd is incredibly proud of Mrs. Bowen and grateful for her continued service to the Boyd Municipal Court and the citizens of Boyd.

The City of Boyd is deeply saddened by the passing of our Presiding Municipal Judge, J. Stewart Bass, following a medical emergency on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

Judge Bass, a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, enjoyed a distinguished 40-year private legal practice in Fort Worth, representing clients in personal injury and workers’ compensation matters.

For more than 24 years, Judge Bass served as an appointed Municipal Judge, providing dedicated service to the cities of North Richland Hills, Watauga, Richland Hills, Blue Mound, and Boyd.

Among his many contributions to public service, Judge Bass will be remembered for his vital role in the development of the interlocal Northeast Tarrant County Teen Court Program. Through this program, young people were provided alternative ways to address minor offenses, accept responsibility, and receive a meaningful second chance.

Judge Bass was respected not only for his profound judicial knowledge and decades of legal experience, but also for the friendship and kindness he extended to those around him. To many city employees, police officers, and colleagues, he was much more than a judge—he was a trusted friend. He was even known to officiate weddings for police officers and friends, becoming part of some of the most meaningful moments in their lives.

Judge Bass’s passing leaves a void that will not be easily filled in Boyd or in the many municipalities and communities he served. His legacy of public service, compassion, and commitment to his community will endure, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

The City of Boyd extends its deepest condolences to the Bass family during this difficult time.

Unfortunately, summer break is officially over…

The backpacks are packed, the school supplies are hopefully labeled, alarms are being set, and parents are trying to remember what time they actually have to leave the house tomorrow morning.

And that means one thing…..IT’S ABOUT TO GET BUSY AROUND BOYD!

School zones are back.
School buses are back.
Drop-off lines are back.
Crosswalks are back.
And yes… TRAFFIC IS BACK.

So before tomorrow morning turns into the annual game of “How Fast Can I Get Through Boyd Before I’m Late?”, here are a few friendly reminders:

SCHOOL ZONE SIGNS = SLOW DOWN.
Those signs and street markings are decorative. Slow down and watch for our students. And remember… going the speed limit is not actually going to make the person behind you late.

RED LIGHTS + STOP ARM = YOU STOP.
If a school bus is loading or unloading kids, give them the time and space they need. There is absolutely nowhere you need to be that's more important than making sure a child gets safely to school.

PUT THE PHONE DOWN.
That text can wait, social media can wait, the group chat can wait. And whatever happened in Boyd last night… let's be honest, somebody has already posted about it and you can see it when you stop.

MOST IMPORTANTLY… BE PATIENT.
The first few mornings are going to be a little slower than normal. EVERYONE is getting back into the routine.
There will be school buses stopping.
Parents figuring out drop-off.
Kids crossing streets.
Teachers getting where they need to be.
And plenty of drivers trying to remember which direction everyone is supposed to be going.

So leave home a few minutes early, expect traffic to move a little slower, and give your fellow Boyd drivers some grace.

A few extra minutes in the car is a small price to pay for getting our kids safely where they need to go.

We’d like to introduce our community to Kristofer, an international student visiting Boyd all the way from Estonia!

Kristofer recently stopped by Boyd City Hall to obtain his official solicitor permit and will be spending some time in our community selling educational books with Southwestern Advantage.

During his visit to City Hall, Kristofer was friendly, professional, and very respectful, and we’re happy to welcome him to Boyd!

A quick reminder for our residents: the City of Boyd requires door-to-door solicitors to obtain a valid permit before conducting business in our community. This permitting process helps the City keep track of who is soliciting within Boyd and provides an added layer of transparency and safety for our residents.

If someone comes to your door representing a business or organization, you’re always welcome to ask to see their City of Boyd solicitor permit.

Roadway Projects on Tuesday, August 4th and Thursday, August 6:

On Tuesday, August 4th, SEMA crews will be working on the signal lights at HWY 114 and FM 730 N. This work will start at 9:00 a.m. with completion anticipated to be at 3:00 p.m. There will be officers working this intersection helping everyone safely navigate the area while work is being done.

On Thursday, August 6th, SEMA construction crews will have the southbound lane of FM 730 N closed going across the bridge from 10:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. on Friday morning, August 7th for crews to work safely on pouring the future roadway. SEMA will have crews out during this time to help coordinate all traffic through the northbound lane.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as they work to complete these projects.
