Did you stop by the Friends of Black Hill Native Plant Sale this past weekend, get home, and realize you wanted more plants? Or did you miss the sale but you want to get some native species for your garden?

Well, good news for you: there are still plants available, and you can come by any time!

Stop by the Black Hill Discovery Center deck and shop! Many plants are remaining from the sale, and we'd love to see them get planted at a new home. Follow the signs to the furthest end of the deck. There are price lists posted and QR codes that will take you to a payment page to pay the FOBH. All proceeds benefit the nature programs at Black Hill Discovery Center.

Species remaining include: Buttonbush, Red Chokeberry, Hairy Alumroot, Swamp Marigold, Foxglove Beardtongue, Switchgrass, Wild Bergamot, Common Sneezeweed, Spotted Beebalm, Scarlet Rosemallow, and multiple species of Goldenrod.

Plant more natives and spread the word!

We are one week away from the Share Fair, happening on April 18 from 10 AM to 12 PM!

Have you signed up to be a "Giver" yet? There is still plenty of space, and there is no minimum number of items required to participate. This event focuses on sustainability through sharing goods in our community. All items are given away freely. By giving items to your neighbor or picking out something new for yourself at the fair, you reduce waste going to the landfill, reduce consumption of newly produced items, save money, and get to know more people in your community.

At our past two Share Fairs, items have included toys, games, books, clothes, holiday decorations, kitchenware, and even a boat! We can't wait to see all of the items that get a new life next week.

Please see our website for more information and to register as a "Giver." Any questions, please reach out via email and we'd be more than happy to help. https://mocoparks.org/3PoeyvJ

When was the last time you celebrated nature's master builder, the beaver?

No matter how frequently you recognize their ecological contributions, make sure you join us next week at the Discovery Center on Monday, April 6, for our Beaver Day Celebration from 10 AM to 1 PM!

There will be crafts, activities, educational information, and our very own Betty the Beaver mascot, all celebrating these amazing animals and their keystone role in the ecosystem. Stop by with your family anytime during this free event to go through the activities at your own pace.

Registration is encouraged but not required. https://mocoparks.org/4rZR65E

We hope to see you then!

P.S. Did you know beavers live in Black Hill Regional Park? Earlier this month, our staff went to check out the woods near one of their lodges and saw many signs of recent beaver activity!

With the weather warming up, buds on the trees, and bird song filling the air, it can only mean one thing - it is time for spring cleaning!

If this season you will be clearing out your home, please consider taking part in our Spring Share Fair on April 18! Back for the second year, this biannual event is entirely free. You can participate as a Giver, and give your gently-used items away trunk-or-treat style, or just come as an attendee and gain some new-to-you things.

Registration is required for those bringing items to give away. Please see our website for more information and to sign up. The more people who participate as Givers, the better the event, so please spread the word! 😊 https://mocoparks.org/3PoeyvJ

The afternoon snowfall here at Black Hill has created a dusting across the lake - showing clearly that much of the lake is covered in ice after this long stretch of cold temperatures!

The Discovery Center is open during our regular hours, 10 AM - 5 PM, this weekend. Come inside and warm up! It's a great weekend for birding, with many waterfowl species on the lake and visible from the Center. It is also a great time to come and see our "For the Love of Birds: Climate and a Changing Landscape" temporary indoor display.

No matter your plans, we hope everyone stays safe and warm this weekend, especially with the extra frigid temperatures and high winds forecast for tomorrow. As a reminder, no level of ice on the lake is ever safe, and going out on the ice is not allowed.
