🏆CIT Awards Banquet🏆

On May 20, 2026, Southside VA CIT held its annual awards banquet, where participating law enforcement and 911 telecommunications agencies came together to recognize individuals for their commitment and exceptional work in the field of Crisis Intervention.

Supervisor Jon Curry was selected as Mecklenburg County 911’s award recipient for his outstanding dedication to Crisis Intervention and service to our community. Jon continuously goes above and beyond in his role as Supervisor and serves as an example of leadership, professionalism, and compassion within our center. In addition to his supervisory duties, Jon is also our CPR instructor and a certified Paramedic, always willing to share his knowledge and support those around him.

Jon represents the standard of excellence we strive to uphold here at Mecklenburg County 911, and we are proud to recognize his accomplishments and dedication to serving others.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. A time to recognize the importance of compassion, understanding, and support for those facing mental health challenges and behavioral health crises. Every call for help represents a person, a family, and a life that matters. CIT continues to envision a community where individuals experiencing a crisis are met not with judgment, but with patience, empathy, and care that promotes their safety, dignity, and well being. The work of Crisis Intervention reminds us that sometimes the most important thing we can offer someone is simply knowing they are not alone.

Congratulations, Jon, and thank you for your continued commitment to our center and our community! 👏

✅️BURN BAN LIFTED✅️

Effective immediately, the full county wide burn ban has been lifted by the Board of Supervisors.

You are now free to burn when you would like, safely. 🔥

If you would like to burn, give us a call to let us know at 434-738-0028. 📞

May 26, 2026

Effective immediately, the Mecklenburg County, Virginia burn ban has been lifted.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation over the last several weeks while conditions remained extremely dry and hazardous.

Even though the burn ban has been lifted, conditions can still change quickly and outdoor burning should always be done safely and responsibly. Before burning, clear the area around the fire to help prevent it from spreading. In accordance with Virginia law, any fire located within 150 feet of dry grass, brush, woods, or other combustible material must be constantly attended by a competent person with adequate fire suppression equipment readily available. Fires should never be left unattended and must be completely extinguished before leaving the area.

Please remember that anyone responsible for starting a wildfire can be held liable for suppression costs and damages.

As always, use common sense, monitor weather conditions, and avoid burning on windy days.

Thank you again for helping us protect Mecklenburg County.
