The Salvation Army Boyertown Corps is now preparing for our Christmas Assistance Program, designed to help low-income and working poor families to provide Christmas gifts for their children.

This program is intended for families experiencing financial hardship who do not have the means to provide a Christmas gift for their child.

Our goal is simple: to bring hope, joy, and the love of Christ to children and families in our community this Christmas.

This year, we will do our best to meet the needs of as many families as possible. However, this program is intended to provide assistance during a time of need or emergency and is not designed to provide Christmas assistance to the same families year after year.

If your family has experienced an emergency or unexpected financial hardship and you are unable to provide for your child this Christmas—and you are not receiving Christmas assistance from another organization—we encourage you to apply and learn more about our programs.

The following information will be required; ID with current address (in Pa you have 15 days to update your address for free online), Proof of ALL household income (this includes parents, children’s income, and any other adults living in the home), and Birth Certificates for all children you are applying for (you have custody of).

Saved to Serve: More Than a Uniform

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” — Ephesians 2:10

When we put on the Salvation Army uniform, we are making a visible statement about an inward commitment. As soldiers, we have made a covenant—a promise before God—to live according to our faith and to serve Him through The Salvation Army.

The uniform is part of that commitment. It is not simply an obligation or an outdated tradition. It is an opportunity to be a witness. When others see our uniform, they should see someone who has committed their life to Christ and to serving others.

But the uniform is only the outward sign. The real evidence is found in how we live.

Our Soldier’s Covenant calls us to follow Jesus, to live a life of integrity, to practice self-discipline, to care for others, and to use our lives and resources in service to God. Our commitment is not meant to remain on paper or on our uniform—it is meant to be lived out every day.

Being “Saved to Serve” means our faith should be evident whether we are wearing the uniform or not. It should be seen in our relationships, our words, our attitudes, and the way we treat people—with compassion, fairness, dignity, love, and grace.

The question is not simply, “Am I wearing the uniform?” The deeper question is, “Am I living the covenant I made?”

I want “Saved to Serve” to become the way I live. I want people to see beyond the uniform and see a life that has been changed by God.

Take a moment today to consider the covenant you made as a soldier.

Am I living what I promised?

Does my life reflect Christ when I am in uniform—and when I am not?

Am I staying true to the covenant I have made with God and The Salvation Army?

The Soldier's Covenant, or articles of war, is the statement of beliefs and promises which every intending soldier is required to sign before enrollment.


Having accepted Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord, and desiring to fulfil my membership of his Church on earth as a soldier of The Salvation Army, I now by God’s grace enter into a sacred covenant.

I believe and will live by the truths of the word of God expressed in The Salvation Army’s eleven Articles of Faith:

We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice.

We believe that there is only one God, who is infinitely perfect, the Creator, Preserver, and Governor of all things, and who is the only proper object of religious worship.

We believe that there are three persons in the Godhead—the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost—undivided in essence and co-equal in power and glory.

We believe that in the person of Jesus Christ the Divine and human natures are united, so that He is truly and properly God and truly and properly man.

We believe that our first parents were created in a state of innocency, but by their disobedience they lost their purity and happiness, and that in consequence of their fall all men have become sinners, totally depraved, and as such are justly exposed to the wrath of God.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has, by His suffering and death, made an atonement for the whole world so that whosoever will may be saved.

We believe that repentance towards God, faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit, are necessary to salvation.

We believe that we are justified by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and that he that believeth hath the witness in himself.

We believe that continuance in a state of salvation depends upon continued obedient faith in Christ.

We believe that it is the privilege of all believers to be wholly sanctified, and that their whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe in the immortality of the soul; in the resurrection of the body; in the general judgment at the end of the world; in the eternal happiness of the righteous; and in the endless punishment of the wicked.

THEREFORE

I will be responsive to the Holy Spirit’s work and obedient to his leading in my life, growing in grace through worship, prayer, service and the reading of the Bible.

I will make the values of the Kingdom of God and not the values of the world the standard for my life.

I will uphold Christian integrity in every area of my life, allowing nothing in thought. word or deed that is unworthy, unclean, untrue, profane, dishonest or immoral.

I will maintain Christian ideals in all my relationships with others: my family and neighbours, my colleagues and fellow Salvationists, those to whom and for whom I am responsible, and the wider community.

I will uphold the sanctity of marriage and of family life.

I will be a faithful steward of my time and gifts, my money and possessions, my body, my mind and my spirit, knowing that I am accountable to God.

I will abstain from alcoholic drink, to***co, the non-medical use of addictive drugs, gambling, po*******hy, the occult, and all else that could enslave the body or spirit.

I will be faithful to the purposes for which God raised up The Salvation Army, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, endeavouring to win others to him, and in his name caring for the needy and the disadvantaged.

I will be actively involved, as l am able, in the life, work, worship and witness of the corps, giving as large a proportion of my income as possible to support its ministries and the worldwide work of the Army.

I will be true to the principles and practices of The Salvation Army, loyal to its leaders, and I will show the spirit of Salvationism whether in times of popularity or persecution.

I now call upon all present to witness that I enter into this covenant and sign these articles of war of my own free will, convinced that the love of Christ, who died and now lives to save me, requires from me this devotion of my life to his service for the salvation of the whole world; and therefore do here declare my full determination, by God’s help, to be a true soldier of The Salvation Army.

"Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you." — James 4:8

There are seasons in our faith when we simply feel… dry.
Prayer feels difficult. The Bible seems harder to open. Worship doesn’t stir our hearts like it once did. We may even find ourselves pulling away from church and from the people who encourage our faith.
Interestingly, the things we often stop doing when we are spiritually dry are often the very things God uses to restore us.
We stop praying—when we need His presence most.
We stop reading Scripture—when we need His truth to guide us.
We stop worshipping—when we need to turn our eyes back toward Him.
We stop gathering with other believers—when we need encouragement and community.
The answer isn't to wait until we feel like doing these things.
Pray—even when you don't feel like praying.
Open God's Word—even when you don't feel like reading.
Worship—even when your heart feels empty.
Show up—even when you would rather withdraw.
This isn't about earning God's love. You can't earn something He has already freely given through His grace.
Instead, these practices help us remain intentional in our relationship with Him. Just as any relationship requires time, communication, and presence, our relationship with God requires us to keep turning toward Him.
Sometimes spiritual renewal begins with a very simple prayer:
“Lord, I may not feel You today, but I will still seek You.”
Feelings are real, but they are not always reliable. God's presence doesn't disappear simply because we don't sense it.
If you're in a dry season today, don't give up. Keep seeking. Keep praying. Keep opening His Word. Keep worshipping. Keep showing up.
God is faithful in the mountaintops—and He is faithful in the valleys.
