Press Release
July 29th, 2026

On Tuesday July 28th, 2026 at approximately 9:51 PM Boyne City Emergency Services responded to calls from multiple witnesses reporting a vehicle had crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of Front St. and W. Main St. The on-duty Boyne City Police Department officer arrived on scene and found a black Chevrolet Silverado had lost control, crashed into a utility pole, and struck the guy wire of a second utility pole. The pickup drove up the guy wire and came to a stop with the front of the pickup suspended approximately 10’ in the air. The collision damaged power lines, causing outages in the surrounding area.

Consumers Energy was called to the scene to render it safe, and the driver was removed from the pickup. The driver, a 40-year-old male, was turned over to Boyne City EMS and transported to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.
Alcohol, THC, and speed may be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Boyne City Fire Department, Boyne City EMS, Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, CCE Central Dispatch, Eriksen’s Towing and Consumers Energy.

Dunk A Cop!

Classic Instruments will be hosting their annual open house on Saturday August 1st. The staff graciously donate the proceeds from this event to the Police Department. Their recent donations were used to purchase the e-bikes we use on patrol.

This year our officers will be in a dunk tank for your dunking pleasure. Let’s see how much we can raise!
