Great piece by Professor Rob Natelson on the Montana Supreme Court's absurd ruling in Monforton v. Knudsen.
Add the justices to the list of political hacks screwing MT property owners - a list that includes Gianforte, Montana's tax-and-spend Republicans, and liberal municipalities.

In Montana, the state’s highest court has asserted an absolute veto over what the people may add to their own constitution.

In 2022, a proposed ballot measure that would have capped Montana property taxes fell short of the more than 60,000 signatures it needed to go before voters.

CI-121 Makes National News....

From yesterday's Washington Post:

"Proponents [of CI-121] note that taxes for many property owners have risen by more than 30 percent over the past year and warn of a bigger increase ahead, blaming a pandemic-fueled boom in real estate values that will lead to even larger tax bills."

The rapid growth in and around Bozeman, Mont., threatens the reputation — and sustainability — of its public schools.

Everyone should watch this. According to this podcaster who is absolutely brilliant with his data, there are MORE than 35 states that protect their population against runaway property taxes. CI-121 does not affect agricultural land. Agricultural land is taxed based on its production. Residential is taxed based on future value, which is unfair, placing an undue burden on families and homeowners. Go to www.cappropertytaxes.com to request your petition. We will post events where we will have representatives collecting signatures.
Give Montana a Choice. Help get CI-121 on the ballot for consideration by Montana voters.

CI-121 doesn’t defund anything. It doesn’t shift the burden. It can’t according to Montana Law. Don’t let the hysteria confuse the underlying issue. Tax reform is desperately needed. No controversy there. Time to remove market bubbles and inflation from our taxes.
