🔥Prescribed Burn on the Custer Gallatin National Forest🔥
May 15, 2026

📍The Custer Gallatin National Forest fire staff plans to conduct a prescribed burn today, on approximately 34 acres off South Brackett Creek Road ( #631), near the trailhead, in the Bozeman Ranger District. We kindly ask you to stay out of the area for your safety and the safety of our firefighters.

⛅ Current and forecasted weather conditions are favorable for safe operations. Crews will continue to monitor conditions closely throughout burn operations and will monitor the burn area throughout the weekend.

🌲This prescribed burn is part of the North Bridgers Forest Health Project, aimed at enhancing forest stands, reducing fuel loads, and protecting our community. Its goals include:
• Lower fuel loads to prevent high-intensity fires.
• Increase safety for firefighters and the public, reducing risks to property in the Wildland-Urban Interface.
• Improve tree planting conditions by clearing competition and debris.
• Promote aspen regeneration by reducing conifer competition.

💨During operations, smoke and flames may be visible, and smoke could settle in low‑lying areas overnight. Fire officials work closely with the National Weather Service and the Montana Department of Environmental Quality to ensure conditions are favorable and that smoke can disperse appropriately.

Please contact the Bozeman Ranger District with any further questions: (406) 522-2520
