On May 29 at about 11:41 a.m., the Gallatin Valley Mall received a phoned-in bomb threat that sounded like a recording. A similar threat was made to a mall in Billings at the same time. Bozeman Police officers responded and evacuated the Gallatin Valley Mall. Officers, detectives, and our explosives K-9 unit carried out a search of the premises.

Nothing suspicious was located during the search, and there is no apparent threat to the public. Thank you to Bozeman Fire for their assistance with this incident and thank you to the Bozeman community for remaining calm and cooperating with first responders.

This Bicycle Safety Month, the City of Bozeman and Bozeman Police Department are teaming up to share some bicycling safety tips!

First, ride prepared with the right gear. Make sure you have a well-fitting helmet and reflectors or lights for night biking. Second, follow traffic laws while on a bike. Use hand signals to show where you’re going, follow the flow of traffic, and obey all traffic controls. Third, yield to pedestrians. Give them space and warn them if you’re about to pass them. Fourth, don’t bike on the sidewalk (with a few exceptions). If you’re over fifteen years old, you can’t ride a bike on the sidewalk anywhere in Bozeman. If you’re fifteen or younger, you can ride your bike on the sidewalk everywhere except the downtown area. No matter your age, you can use mobility devices, including adaptive bikes, on the sidewalk everywhere in Bozeman.

Motorists, please be on the lookout for bicyclists and share the road. Whether you're on a bike, in a car, in a mobility device, or on foot, stay safe this summer!
