There is power in telling our own stories.
So much of the public conversation about abortion happens through headlines, court decisions, elections, and policy debates. But those aren't the whole story.
Behind every conversation about abortion access are real people making decisions, finding care, figuring out how to pay for it, traveling when care isn't available nearby, or using telehealth to access medication abortion from home.
When those experiences are part of the story, they give people a fuller and more honest picture of what abortion access actually looks like. They also make space for people who have experienced abortion care to speak for themselves, rather than having their experiences defined by someone else.
Right now, there is an opportunity for Montanans who want to share their experience to do exactly that.
Montana Public Radio Health Care Reporter Aaron Bolton is working on a story about how access to abortion care has changed since Roe v. Wade was overturned.
Aaron is hoping to speak with people who have accessed telehealth or medication abortion services or received help from an abortion fund to pay for care or travel expenses.
If you are interested in sharing your experience, the first conversation is off the record.
That means it will not be recorded, reported, or shared. It is an opportunity for Aaron to learn more about your experience and for you to ask questions about the story, the reporting process, privacy, or anything else you want to understand before deciding whether to participate.
After that conversation, you decide whether you want to move forward with an on-the-record interview. Choosing not to participate is always an option.
