Montana Opticom phone services are being impacted by a nationwide connectivity issue being experienced by a major network carrier. This issue is causing a "network is busy" error message when dialing out to some phone numbers. They are aware of the issue and are working to repair it. Please be patient as we work with them to restore full functionality to the phones.

The dramatic expansion of teleworking by US schools, businesses and government agencies in response to the coronavirus is raising fresh questions about the capacity and security of the tools many Americans use to connect to vital workplace systems and data.

Status Update:

As we continue to monitor the overall health of the Internet, we are seeing some interesting patterns develop. Here are a few things to consider:

The first major impact we have seen is a dramatic increase in cell phone usage. If you are having connectivity issues with your cell phone, you are not alone. So far, landline phone traffic has not met or exceeded capacity in our network.

Security has moved to the forefront as users are transitioning from well maintained IT work environments to less well protected home networks. We are encouraging our customers to change their passwords on wi-fi networks as well as online retail outlets and banking. The bad guys know you are less protected and they are taking advantage. If you are not using a web security software, you are much more vulnerable. Montana Opticom recommends Webroot Secure Anywhere. We use it here at our offices and in our homes. If you need help with security, call us. We can help !

Bandwidth increase requests have begun coming in today. More and more users are now present on residential networks. With parents working from home and students beginning to attend classes online, our customers are asking for more bandwidth. We are responding by offering a 100/100Mbps package for an additional $7.00 per month. This is a 25% increase in your bandwidth at a deeply reduced price. Call us for details if you would like to boost your bandwidth.

As always, we can be reached at 999-5000 or email [email protected]

Thanks,

Montana Opticom

Due to the current situation with the COVID-19 outbreak and efforts by local, state and federal authorities to curtail the spread of the virus, many Montana Opticom customers who rely on our internet, phone and IPTV services will be working, attending online classes and videoconferencing from home or other remote locations.

In our efforts to accommodate our customers, Montana Opticom will suspend data caps from all Fiber Optic Based Internet accounts effective Friday March 13, 2020.

As a local Gallatin Valley business, we at Montana Opticom are sensitive to the financial impact this situation is having on our economy. It is our goal during this uncertain time to continue to provide the world class internet service you have come to expect.

To insure that our customers are able to maintain connectivity throughout this ordeal, Montana Opticom will be offering to create special billing arrangements for customers suffering severe financial setbacks during this time. Please call us at 999-5000 to speak to a customer service representative for details.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email us at: [email protected]

It has come to our attention that a phishing campaign designed to collect WebMail login credentials is underway. In examples we have seen - the phishing email advises of system maintenance and requires the recipient to confirm their Email credentials.

Upon clicking the link, a page resembling Montana Opticom's WebMail lite login form is displayed and used to harvest login credentials. We believe this campaign may also be targeting other webmail systems as well, and as always we recommend to our customers: secure your settings and double check the source of such notices and verify the validity of SSL certificates of any web page requesting your login information.

We are working with the our partners and the parties involved in the transmission and hosting of the phishing to mitigate this campaign.
