Lightning Safety Awareness week

Knowing what to do during a thunderstorm can help keep you and your family safe.

During a storm:
• Seek shelter immediately in a building or hard-topped vehicle.
• Stay away from windows and doors.
• Avoid using electronic equipment that puts you in direct contact with electricity.
• Avoid showering, bathing, doing laundry, or washing dishes.

There’s nothing like outdoor grilling, but grills placed too close to structures, trees, or other combustible materials can quickly become a fire hazard. Hot surfaces, open flames, and grease buildup can also cause serious burns.
🔥 Grilling Safety Tips:
• Check propane tanks and connections for leaks before use
• Clean grease and fat buildup from grills and drip trays
• Keep grills away from homes, railings, trees, and overhangs
• Always open the gas grill lid before lighting
• Keep children and pets at least 3 feet from the grill area
• Only use approved charcoal starter fluid — never add flammable liquids to an active fire
• Allow coals to cool completely before disposal in a metal container
• Never leave a grill unattended while in use

Tackling some spring cleaning or painting this weekend?

Oil-soaked rags can start a fire if not handled safely. As oil-based paints and stains dry, they give off heat. If rags are piled up or put in a closed container, that heat can build up and start a fire.

Stay safe:
• Lay rags flat to dry outside, away from anything that can burn
• Or place them in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid
