Here’s what every federal retiree should know about accessing their personnel record (eOPF) after separation.

OPM just launched the eOPF Documents Request Service (myopf.opm.gov), a self-service portal letting separated employees request their folder online instead of going through agency HR or NPRC.

Key points:
• Verify identity through Login.gov (ID plus SSN required).
• Wait at least 30 days after separation before requesting.
• Download link expires in 24 hours, so save it immediately.
• If your file isn’t found, your next step depends on your separation date.
- After 1951 goes through NPRC.
- Before 1952 falls under National Archives.

Your personnel record verifies prior service, supports retirement claims, and matters for security clearance reviews. We have had experiences where it has taken as little as 10 minutes to complete. It is better to straighten out your SF-50s before you retire so it does not delay OPM.

A former FAA executive, who after embracing retirement and navigating the DRP, found that there is a void regarding federal benefits education, especially during the retirement process where it is so important to make educated and informed decisions. Angela shares a servant heart, wanting to share her stories with friends and federal peers. We are proud to welcome Angela into our educator circle.
