DETN8R Company | CWFTX & Mountaineering Training
This past weekend, the Soldiers of DETN8R Company took to the field to execute our Annual Cold Weather FTX and Mountaineering Training Exercise. Operating in true winter conditions, our formation deliberately pushed both individual and collective limits while testing our equipment, technical proficiency, and resilience in the elements.
Throughout the exercise, Soldiers conducted:
• Over-snow mobility operations on skis – Training focused on movement techniques, terrain navigation, and maintaining tactical dispersion in snow-covered environments. Soldiers refined their ability to maneuver efficiently while in austere winter conditions.
• Fundamentals of ice climbing and vertical mobility – Personnel received instruction on rope systems, knot tying, anchor establishment, belay procedures, and safety protocols. Soldiers applied these fundamentals on ice walls, developing confidence and capability in vertical movement operations.
• Ballistic breaching operations – Teams rehearsed breaching fundamentals, safety considerations, shot placement, and coordinated entry procedures. This training enhanced our ability to rapidly and safely create access points under controlled conditions.
This FTX was intentionally designed to stress our Soldiers physically and mentally validating cold weather gear, refining technical skills, and reinforcing small-unit leadership under demanding conditions. Operating in Vermont’s winter environment requires discipline, preparation, and trust in your team. DETN8R Company demonstrated all three.
To conclude the weekend, we had the distinct honor of recognizing a Soldier for seven years of honorable and dedicated service to the unit. We also proudly conducted our first commissioning ceremony, celebrating the achievement of a cadet who earned the rank of Second Lieutenant.
It was a meaningful way to close out the weekend honoring continued service while welcoming new leadership into our ranks.
